About Chesley

Attorney Chesley Oriel started handling and assisting in collection matters during law school, so his experience in the “collection world” exceeds fifty years!
What sets Attorney Chesley Oriel apart from other attorneys who handle collection matters is that he tries to think “outside the box”. A perfect example involves a Condo Association that contacted him to help them collect outstanding condo fees that were owed by a condo owner. Rather than simply help the Condo Association collect the condo fees that were outstanding, Attorney Oriel was able to get the Condo owner to transfer the ownership of the condo to the Condo Association for a nominal cost, plus he got the mortgage lender to discharge two mortgages for “zero” payment. Attorney Oriel’s efforts resulted in the Condo Association then selling the condo and it made several thousands of dollars that it never anticipated receiving. Yes, it was a windfall, that would never have occurred had it not been for Attorney Oriel, thinking “outside the box”.

Attorney Chesley Oriel has a history of receiving referrals from other attorneys because they know that if there is “something” to collect, he will collect it.

There is never a charge for an initial consultation.

Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

During the past year we successfully collected on a foreign Judgment issued in another Country by attaching the Debtor's real estate and selling it at a Sheriff's sale; with respect to a personal injury claim, we successfully settled without suit a slip and fall injury that involved over $450,000 in medical bills, that other so called personal injury law firms thought there was no liability; and we assisted a client in purchasing an office building.

How did you build a successful practice?

We built a successful law practice by not taking any clients for granted; by providing clients with respect and promptly responding to their inquiries by returning phone calls, responding to emails, and by being available to our clients when they need our help. Our fees are fair and reasonable, and if we are able to help our clients resolve a matter without our involvement, and thereby save them the expense of a fee, we do so without hesitation. Our practice has been built on referrals from satisfied clients.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

We recommend that when someone is looking to hire a lawyer, that they ask someone who they trust for a suggestion, but its important to keep in mind that just because one person may like a lawyer, it doesn't mean that the lawyer is the right fit or choice for everyone else. So, when looking for a lawyer a person should take the time and interview the lawyer even if its only by a phone call. It is extremely important that the client feels comfortable that the lawyer they choose is the right one for them, no matter what the legal matter may be.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

Local knowledge is only important if the issue involves a political or actual location issue.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

Our practice involves free, no charge consultations, usually by phone. During the consultation we try to obtain as much information as possible and share our thoughts with the potential client. Often, we will provide the same service by email.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

The information we need during the free consultation is basically why is the person looking for a lawyer. The more information they provide us the more information we can provide them in return with respect to how we would help them and what our fee and anticipated expenses would be.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

We believe what sets us apart from other lawyers is that we sincerely appreciate the business/clients we get; we take nothing for granted. We are well aware that clients have many choices; so we respond to their inquiries; we respect them; and if we can save them money we do so. We never lose sight of the fact that our successful practice relies on referrals from other satisfied clients. Its the key to our success.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

The most rewarding aspect of our services is when we get a call or an email from a new client who tells us that another one of our clients has spoken so highly of us and recommended the caller to us. That call or email, is not taken for granted. Its the reward we receive for treating clients, just like we would want to be treated if we were looking for a lawyer.
