Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
Divorce - Client (wife) married 30 years, separated 25 years, receiving Social Security Disability Benefits, was awarded spousal support, pension benefits, medical insurance coverage, and attorney fees in contested divorce action. Landlord-Tenant Matter - Client signed lease with presumed owner of residential property. Later discovered that lessor was not the owner of the property, but rather a tenant pursuant to a lease with the actual owner. Owner filed suit against his tenant (client's lessor) and client for unpaid rent and property damage totaling $56,000. Judgment was entered against tenant (client's lessor) but client was found not responsible for any damages to either the owner or tenant (client's lessor). Probate - Client (decedent's spouse) filed to probate estate valued at $250.000. Will leaving entire estate to client was contested by decedent's children from a previous marriage. Court held will to be valid and enforceable and denied all claims by decedent's children. Bankruptcy - Successfully filed numerous Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy petitions providing economic relief to financially distressed clients. Criminal - Client charged with assault, battery, and armed robbery of a woman in the driveway of her home. Victim identified client as the perpetrator in a photographic line-up. Client acquitted at trial. Driver License Appeal - Client convicted of two drunk driving offenses and driver's license was revoked. Successfully petitioned for restoration of driving privileges and client was awarded limited permit allowing him to drive to, from, and in the course of employment.
How did you build a successful practice?
Knowledge of the law (also mindful of areas in which you lack expertise); realistic appraisal of client's problems and prompt response to client's needs; hard work and creativity, of course; all of which leads to repeat retention by clients and referrals by clients of their friends and acquaintances.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Important to know the individual requirements and idiosyncrasies of the local judiciary. Only years of experience can provide that knowledge.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
Whether client's problem is within my area of expertise; my fee requirements if the problem can be sufficiently evaluated in a phone consultation; possible referral to another attorney better suited to represent client; whether a possible conflict exists.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
Nature of problem; names of parties involved; what action client has already taken to resolve problem; client's expectations; client's ability to pay reasonable fees and cost.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
Hopefully all attorneys should provide the level of service I provide. Unfortunately, that is not the case. I think I provide a realistic assessment of my client's problems and practical and economic responses to their concerns and expectations.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
It sounds trite, but ""helping the helpless"".
What are your other interests in addition to law?
Avid tennis and bridge player.
Are you involved in your community?
Former president of country club, board member of community improvement association, board member of several alumni associations.
