Shane grew up in the small western Kansas town of Leoti, working endless hours of farm and ranch labor between school activities and university attendance. D. Shane Bangerter received his bachelor’s degree in 1987 from Oral Roberts University and a law degree in 1990 from the University of Kansas School of Law. He and his wife, Kirstin, have two children, Austin flies the F-16 for the USAF and Paige plans to attend the University of Kansas School of Law in the Fall of 2017.
Shane was appointed to the Kansas Board of Regents by Governor Sam Brownback in 2013, has served as a member of the Board of Trustees for Dodge City Community College. In addition, he has served on the Board of Governors for the University of Kansas School of Law, and the Boards of the Dodge City Housing Authority, Dodge City Roundup Rodeo, The Alley Teen Center and Dodge City Raceway Park.
