Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

Several clients have saved $100,000 or more of homestead equity because we monitored the 2021 state legislature and knew that the exemption was going to increase soon. By counseling these clients to wait, we helped them save their homes and at least another $100,000 of equity.

How did you build a successful practice?

Hard work, attention to detail, and unsurpassed customer service.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Trust. Anyone can fill in the bankruptcy papers, including the client! Doing it well and achieving the best possible outcome requires experience, knowledge and skill. All clients should be able to trust their attorney to bring all three to their case.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

Local knowledge is vital! We have worked with two of the three Trustees for the past 26 years, and with the newest Trustee for her entire career. We live in the same communities as our clients and we care about the successful outcome of their case.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

First we want to hear about a new caller's unique situation. Then we can begin to discuss all alternatives, including non-bankruptcy alternatives and ALL chapters of the bankruptcy code, not just Chapter 7.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

A brief summary helps the most, along with the caller's specific goals. What is the most urgent issue facing the caller? From there, we want to get a picture of the debt issues, and to understand all major assets in order to begin giving comprehensive advice.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

Customer service and dedication to the best possible outcome. We lay out ALL alternatives, and counsel each client on the pros and cons of each one so that they can decide what is best for their unique situation.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Seeing the relief we bring to every client, sometimes just by talking with them. Callers to our firm feel the weight of the world begin to shift from their shoulders to ours, and we truly enjoy getting them back on their feet. We invented the phrase "Helping Good People Through Bad Times" in 2001 and having been doing just that ever since.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

My family comes first, and running the firm with my wife allows us both to spend as much time as possible with family. We love to travel, and to support our children in theater and the performing arts.

Are you involved in your community?

I served on the Missoula County Park Board for 24 years and my wife & I volunteer with the Missoula Children\'s Theatre.
