About Darrell
Darrell Dotson was born and raised in Houston, Texas. He attended Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas and received a B.S. in Biology in 1988 and a second B.S. Degree in Zoology in 1989. After graduating from college, he attended The University of Texas Health/Science Center Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in Houston, Texas, where he received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 1994. After graduate school, he attended University of Houston Law Center where he earned a J.D. in 1997.
During law school, Darrell worked at two law firms, Baker & Botts and Arnold White & Durkee, assisting in the preparation of patent litigations and patent applications. He is licensed to practice in all state courts in Texas and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is also licensed in the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of Texas.
For the past 13 years, Darrell has specialized in intellectual property litigation, including analysis of the infringement, validity and enforceability of patents. He has significant litigation and trial experience in patent cases related to biosciences, including matters relating to genetically engineered crops and food products, genetically engineered mice, protein and small molecule pharmaceuticals, white blood cell control products and red blood cell typing methods. He is currently actively involved in litigation matters related to broadband wireless and internet search browser technologies.
Darrell's litigation practice also includes counseling clients on intellectual property enforcement matters, litigation strategy, licensing, and settlement negotiations. His experience includes all aspects of patent case development, including, pre-filing investigations and counseling, drafting of pleadings, discovery management and disputes, preparation and presentation of fact and expert witnesses at depositions and trial, claim construction briefing, preparation of pre-trial and post-trial dispositive motions, trial presentation, and appellate briefing.

- Commonwealth Scientific & Industrial Research Organization v. ASUS Computer Int’l. (ACI) et al., Case No. 6:06-CV-550 (LED) (E.D. Tex.) Assisted in preparing case for trial. The case settled following jury selection.
- Amgen Inc. v. F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd. et al., C.A. No. 05-12237-WGY (D. Mass.) Represented Plaintiff Amgen and had a lead role in preparing this case for jury trial and assisting in case presentation at trial.
- Syngenta Biotechnology, Inc. v. Monsanto Co., C.A. No. 02-1326 (D. Del.) Represented Plaintiff Monsanto and had a lead role in preparing this case for trial. The case settled before trial.
- Monsanto Co. v. Mycogen Corp., C.A. No. 01CV0353B (S.D. Cal.) Represented Plaintiff in this action under 35 U.S.C. § 146Monsanto and had a lead role at this one week bench trial.
- Lexicon Genetics, Inc. v. Deltagen, Inc., C.A. No. CV-00-21060 (N.D. Cal.) Represented Plaintiff Lexicon and had a lead role in preparing this case for trial. The case settled before trial.
- Streck Laboratories, Inc. v. Beckman Coulter, Inc. C.A. No.8:99CV473 (D. Neb.) Represented Plaintiff Streck and had a lead role at the three-week jury trial. The case settled before jury verdict.
