Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
In a recent carjacking case, my client was not held to answer after preliminary examination and was freed from custody. I was recently assigned a high profile homicide case involving an officer who was shot.
How did you build a successful practice?
I work tirelessly for my clients. I make time to see them in custody and make sure I am prepared for their cases. This has spread word of mouth of my services.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
A lawyer who will fight for your rights. Not every case that is filed is necessarily something that can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt at trial. However, when there is sufficient evidence to obtain a conviction, having an experienced attorney on your side to negotiate different options for you is a definite benefit.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Just like any jurisdiction, knowing the local judges, how they are likely to make rulings, how they decide on issues like pretrial release, or post conviction alternatives always helps. Additionally, knowing the local prosecutors and their nuances can make a definite difference.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
I will review the case basics: what you are charged with, your custody status, stage of the proceedings, I then get some background information about you and what you are looking for. Sometimes the answer is not a new attorney, but a second opinion on your current offers. Sometimes it is a referral to a different attorney in a practice area that I do not practice.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
Where your case is located, which county. The charges, and case number if you have it. I need the next court date, and where in the proceedings your case is currently at. If you have prior representation, who that attorney is, and preferably if known who the prosecutor is on your case.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
I have been both a prosecutor and defense attorney. I have a large knowledge base of prior cases as I have handled several thousand cases. Every case is unique, but cases often share some characteristics. My understanding of cases, case law, and the local area allow me to know if you have been offered a good deal, or if you want to fight your case.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Being able to overcome the current custody issues and see my clients freed from pretrial detention and be able to have the time to fight their case not incarcerated. Also, using my understanding of the law to get my clients cases dismissed, or not guilty verdicts and knowing they are free to go their own way.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
I am passionate about the law. I love talking about all aspects. My current areas I am focused on are Native Tribal or Indigenous Law, and I am studying the effects of gender bias in data especially as more and more people and companies are turning to AI.
Are you involved in your community?
I am a member of the local bar association and sit on the Criminal Committee section. I am a member of the Inns of Court. Prior to becoming an attorney I owned a local coffee shop downtown for over 10 years and know a lot of the community.
