David Chen, Esq. is engaged in the practice of patent and trademark prosecution, litigation, licensing, and counseling. He has many years of experience exclusively in the practice of IP law in both large and small firms.
Mr. Chen received his J.D. cum laude from New York Law School in 1999, and his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering and material science from the University of Connecticut in 1993. He obtained U.S. and foreign patent and trademark rights for clients in various technologies, including surgical instruments, electrochemical sensors, computer software, materials, analytical instruments, clothing, and footwear. Prior to entering the legal profession, Mr. Chen worked as a design engineer in the fields of aircraft engine components, test equipment for aircraft engines, wind tunnels, and heat treatment of materials. Mr. Chen is admitted in Connecticut and the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Mr. Chen was a recent guest speaker at a multinational corporation on the topic of trademark licensing and steps a U.S. company should take to protect its goods that are manufactured in a foreign country. He also recently obtained a successful verdict of non-infringement on behalf of a U.S. client who was sued for trademark infringement in the People's Republic of China. Mr. Chen was lead counsel in numerous oppositions and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.
