About David
David Hanchey was raised in Lake Charles, Louisiana, where he graduated from Barbe High School in 1981. David attended Louisiana State University, where he obtained a finance degree in 1985 and a JD in 1989. He then clerked for United States District Judge Donald E. Walter in the Western District of Louisiana. David then went to work for the largest law firm in Baton Rouge, where he became a partner in 1996. While in Baton Rouge, David did legal work for Fortune 500 companies, national insurance companies, higher educational institutions, and many other types of businesses and entities. In 1999, David returned to his hometown of Lake Charles to practice with another large firm where his work shifted from corporate litigation to litigation on behalf of individuals. After only a year in Lake Charles, David became a partner in the firm and practiced there until he formed The Hanchey Law Firm in 2006. Since forming The Hanchey Law Firm, David's practice has concentrated on representing individuals in litigation matters involving personal injury, wrongful death, product liability, hurricane insurance claims, auto collisions, and various accident cases.
David is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas, the Southwest Louisiana Bar Association, the Louisiana Bar Foundation, and the Louisiana Association for Justice. He has taught continuing legal education courses for LSU Law School, the Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association, the Baton Rouge Bar Association, and the Southwest Louisiana Bar Association in the areas of insurance law, ethics, and professionalism. He is active in various bar and civic activities, and he is a past president of the Southwest Louisiana Bar Association. David is married to the former Karen Billeaudeau. They have three children, Brian, Scott, and Kristen.
