David M. Jenkins is a partner at Barone & Jenkins, P.C. He has extensive experience in civil litigation and appeals in both federal and state courts. His practice areas include appellate practice, commercial and tort litigation, construction law, professional liability (attorneys, architects, engineers), entertainment law, and intellectual property law. Mr. Jenkins' professional accomplishments include successfully obtaining a $10.5 million jury verdict and judgment for indemnification in favor of an international container line shipping company client against a trucking company in a claim that arose out of a catastrophic injury lawsuit. He also has been involved in numerous appeals in state and federal appeals courts, including arguments in the Illinois Supreme Court.
Mr. Jenkins also has experience in intellectual property litigation, copyright and trademark registrations, contract drafting and negotiations, business litigation, business formation, and confidentiality and non-competition agreements. He has an entertainment law practice where he provides efficient, personalized legal services to a wide range of creative and business clients in the various entertainment industries, including music, recording, theater, movie, television, magazine and book publishing.
Mr. Jenkins has authored a number of articles and been a lecturer and speaker on various topics, including the Americans With Disabilities Act, the Fair Housing Act, the Architectural Works Copyright Protection Act, and trademark licensing (Licenses, Trademarks, and Bankruptcy, Oh My!: Trademark Licensing and the Perils of Licensor Bankruptcy, 25 J. Marshall L. Rev. 143 (1991)).
Mr. Jenkins was admitted to the Illinois bar in 1992. He has also been admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and the United States District Court for the Central District of Illinois. He is also a member of the Trial Bar of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Mr. Jenkins graduated magna cum laude from The John Marshall Law School in 1992, where he was the Executive Lead Articles Editor for the John Marshall Law Review. Mr. Jenkins received his undergraduate degrees in Political Science and English from Wittenberg University in 1989.
Mr. Jenkins is a member of the Appellate Lawyers Association, the Defense Research Institute, the American Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association, and the Illinois State Bar Association. Mr. Jenkins is also a member of the Recording Academy (also known as the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences).
Mr. Jenkins' prior affiliations include Crisham & Kubes, Ltd.; Quinlan & Crisham, Ltd.; and Hinshaw & Culbertson. Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Jenkins was a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Charles R. Norgle, Sr., in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
