Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
David Lilenfeld, founder of Lilenfeld PC, had a case for a company sued
for trademark infringement. The lawsuit attacked my Client's right to
use its name, a name it had been using for more than fifteen years. It
is a $50 million dollar business that depends on a high volume of small
sales to thousands of different customers. Changing the name of its
business would have greatly damaged the good will my Client had
generated the last fifteen years, in addition to costing at least a
hundred thousands dollars to fund a re-branding. David Lilenfeld walked
the Client through the process and fought hard to fend of the attack.
Ultimately, through hard-nosed litigation, we convinced the opposing
party that my Client would prevail. The opposing party ended up
dismissing the lawsuit and my Client was able to keep its name.
How did you build a successful practice?
David Lilenfeld has built a successful practice at Atlanta-based
Lilenfeld PC by maintaining two primary goals: (1) win cases for Clients
- Clients hire us to win their case and that is where we need to stay
focused and (2) win cases efficiently - litigation is expensive and
time-consuming. Lilenfeld PC does not waste time or effort, nor let
matters drag on longer than they should.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Honesty and integrity. Clients need a lawyer who has made an absolute
commitment to giving the client every possible chance to in their case,
while doing so efficiently.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Local knowledge is very important to David Lilenfeld's practice and to
having success in client cases. Knowing and being familiar with the
judge or judges assigned to a trademark or copyright dispute is a
critical element . Knowing the likes, dislikes and biases of judges
helps Lilenfeld PC effectively serve clients. Being acquainted with the
opposing attorney is also helpful, as a good relationship can ensure the
client's case runs more smoothly, which, in the end, saves the client
time and money.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
Lilenfeld PC is happy to talk with potential clients about their
intellectual property matter. During a free phone consultation, we
typically are able to understand the basic facts of the issue and give
the potential client a ""point in the right direction,"" in terms of
next steps.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
David Lilenfeld will have a free phone consultation and elicit from the
potential client the basic facts - enough facts for Mr. Lilenfeld to
suggest a next step.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
Lilenfeld PC is a relatively small law firm, but has deep expertise in
handling intellectual property matters, especially trademark and
copyright disputes. To get a lawyer with comparable expertise in
Atlanta, a potential client is likely going to need to hire a lawyer
from a very large law firm, which is considerably more costly than the
lawyers at Lilenfeld PC.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
""Nothing is more rewarding than winnings cases for clients,"" said
Lilenfeld PC founder, David Lilenfeld, ""and winning cases efficiently
is a huge additional reward.""
What are your other interests in addition to law?
In addition to practicing intellectual property law, David Lilenfeld has
an interested in equity crowdfunding and how it can impact small
business in Atlanta, Georgia and impact the start-up community overall.
Are you involved in your community?
