Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I limit my practice to family law, and most of my practice is devoted to complex custody litigation. 70% of my clients are fathers seeking custody. This last year after fighting for 4 years to get a court to order an in-depth investigation the court ordered the EC 730 evaluation and my client received full custody of his two boys. The boys are doing much better in father's care and we are now pursuing child support for them. I have three other such cases pending, and believe my clients will prevail and be given full custody.
How did you build a successful practice?
I talk to my colleagues, who referred clients to me and talk to people in the community about their legal rights and the availability of the courts to protect neglected or abused children.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Willingness to do the work to document the case including investigating, and both honesty and fairness in billing.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Very important. I always research a judge who is unknown to me or new to the bench.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
I listen and ask questions regarding the facts to get a sense of why rights and remedies are available to the client, the deadlines the client might have to act and get some idea of how much it might cost the client.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
I need the potential clients: name, address, phone and email contact information and a brief synopsis of the facts and status of the case (new, mid-litigation, post-judgment litigation/motion.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
My clients who have had prior counsel tell me it is because I truly care about them and the case and do a thorough job.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Moving my clients and their children to a better place.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
My church, my grandchildren, gardening.
Are you involved in your community?
I am on my church prayer team and my neighborhood watch. I care for my 89-year-old mother at home.
