Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

In a personal injury case, my client was a passenger on a motorcycle. The Motorcycle had a wreck with a car. My client's injuries were severe and catastrophic, leading to long hospital stay, loss of employment, permanent scarring and medical bills totaling over $800,000. My client initially hired another law firm, who quickly settled with the driver of the car, but left my client holding the bag for all of the medical bills. She terminated representation of that attorney and retained our office. We were able to successfully pursue a claim against the motorcycle driver, who was partially at fault, negotiate liens from her medical bills down and put some money in her pocket for her pain and suffering. We did not give up. We did not take the easy answer and easy settlement. We fully investigated the case and relentlessly pursued all avenues of recovery.

How did you build a successful practice?

We have built our practice on being client/service oriented. We built our reputation on being "technically proficient" when it comes to filing claims, suits and negotiations. We have a policy in our office to return all phone calls within 24 hours. We encourage our clients to stay in constant contact with us. We utilized technology to insure that clients always have access to their files and their information. Clients can always "look over our shoulder" and see what we are doing on their case.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Clients should look for an attorney who has enough experience to know when to push for trials and when to recommend other courses of action. Clients should look for an attorney with whom they communicate. Our office considers clients to be "partners" in their case. It is the client's case, so they will possess the most knowledge and information. We "educate" our clients on the law, as it applies to their case. The client "educates" us to the facts of their particular case. The product of that relationship gives us the ability to be more effective in representing our clients.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

Local knowledge is important, to some degree, in knowing the judges, what juries listen to in our particular jurisdiction (Hinds, Rankin and Madison, Mississippi). I recently had an experience with a Florida attorney, who completely misunderstood laws concerning settlement of minor's claim and Mississippi lien law. This mistake could have cost our client valuable dollars. Fortunately, we got involved and resolved the matter.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

We can provide a roadmap to your case. Although, we will investigate the case after you have agreed to allow us to represent you, with our 20+ years of experience, we can and do provide a detailed case management plan for your situation.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

We need the name of the person calling; the nature of the matter; where you are located; the current status of the matter; if they are currently represented; if there are any impending deadlines; the name or names of all other persons involved.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

We are personable, smart, family oriented and have a good work/personal life balance.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Helping people achieve their goals and making people better off then when they walked in our door.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

My wife, my two daughters, cooking and golf.

Are you involved in your community?

I am on the Board of Directors for our homeowners association. I give to local charities and assist in areas that benefit children. I am also a Certified Guardian Ad Litem.
