Questions & Answers
How did you build a successful practice?
We lived it just like our clients. Divorce Matters® is a Colorado-proud family law firm with a team of experienced attorneys dedicated to protecting our clients' best interests. We're also mothers, fathers, cohabitants, and divorcees ourselves, so we're intimately familiar with the range of emotions, piles of paperwork, and deluge of decisions that crop up when you seek legal help to resolve a family issue. Whether our clients are pondering a divorce, drafting a prenuptial agreement, or welcoming a new member into your family, we'll help them take control of the situation and prepare them-financially, emotionally, and logistically-for the future. We are customer service specialist practicing law. Because of our client focus, we tailor our approach to meet the specific needs of each client. From the first point of contact when a potential client calls in and speaks with our client intake specialists, until the moment their case is settled, we are there for the client every step of the way. We cannot control the ultimate decision of any judge, but we can control our client service and we can control how we prepare for each case and each mediation and each court appearance. By focusing on our clients and service, we have satisfied clients who build our successful practice.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
While each individual lawyer is unique and has unique talents, a prospective client should also look at the lawyer's team that stands behind him. Clients should know that when they hire one of our attorneys, what they are really getting is a whole team of legal professionals. Clients should look for attorneys that have a deep and experienced team that understanding of how the law works and how it can work for their clients so that they can properly handle their clients' cases for the best outcome. That is the type of attorneys that we have at Divorce Matters. A great lawyers team should include paralegals, legal assistants and client relations specialists. Where possible a lawyer should use his paralegal and legal assistant to perform routine legal work in an effective manner. This frees the attorney to focus on the most important aspects of the case while having the routine work performed at a lower cost. The attorney's team should include a client relation specialist to ensure the client receives the service they deserve.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Local knowledge of the law and how the divorce/family law processes work is incredibly important. Laws are constantly changing and vary state by state, and there are even nuances county by county. In addition, laws don't make decisions, judges do. It is very important that any divorce attorney understand that each judge wants a case presented in a certain way and that each judge focuses and evidence differently. Knowing the judges makes Divorce Matters better attorneys for our clients. What information can you provide in a consultation? Our primary goal is to understand the person's needs and goals. Once we understand those needs and goals, we focus on providing a client with an overview of the process to accomplish those needs and goals. Our attorneys try to prepare each person for how the system works, how long it might take and what to expect from the courts, out attorneys and the system.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
We focus on family law. As our name states, Divorce Matters focuses on Family law, Divorce and Children. Because of this we have handled hundreds of case just like yours and are capable and ready to handle your case. We offer a client relations specialist who will guide any client though the process and be a advocate and support for that client thought the case. The only goal of the client relations specialist is to make sure the client gets the service from our firm the client needs and deserves. We are also different because we have the ability to tap into a large breadth of knowledge in many practice areas-divorce, family, DUI, criminal, workers' comp, employment. This means that if there are more than one legal issue our clients are facing we have the ability to take care of all their legal needs.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Helping our clients build a future. Many clients remain mired in the past and often feel their lives are out of control. They cannot see a future. It's rewarding for us as attorneys to use the law to build a future for our clients where they understand their financial situation and their roles as parents. The most rewarding part of our job is simply hearing a thank you from our clients.
Are you involved in your community?
Yes, our firm and our attorneys are actively involved in supporting charities though out the Denver metro area. I also attend various charity events that support causes such as The Boys and Girls Club of Colorado, Big Brothers -Big Sisters, Denver Rescue Mission. I have coached youth sports such as baseball and softball and serve and support our children's schools, including the Kent Denver Foundation and Valor Christian Foundation.
