Our firm litigated a medical malpractice case where the hospital claimed it did nothing wrong by not instituting additional warnings and protections for patients at risk for sleep apnea. After the case was over, we were informed by a local resident that the hospital was now tagging patients at risk for sleep apnea with a big bracelet that said "Sleep apnea". Even if we weren't as successful at trial as we hoped, I know we made a difference in bringing the case.

Building a successful practice is all about results and doing a good job for your client. Even though you might not always win, if you have done good work and prepared well your client will know and the other side will know. This will help future clients and make your past clients feel appreciated and heard.

When hiring an attorney clients need to ask about their specific experience in their type of case and also what type of experience they will have as a client. Just because someone is a lawyer does not mean they are qualified to handle your personal injury or a wrongful death case. Will there be a legal assistant assigned to my case? How often will I receive updates about my case? A good lawyer will explain this up front and show that your case isn't just one more on their huge pile.

Local knowledge is very important to success in cases. When an attorney is known in the community by other attorneys and the people who will comprise the jury it is helpful.

During free consultations we listen to clients and tell them whether or not we feel we can assist them in a meaningful way. If we don't feel we can provide enough value for our fee, we are honest and give the caller some good tips on proceeding on their own or with a different firm.

During free consultations for injury cases we need to understand how the injury happened, what medical treatment has occurred, and what kind of future treatment the client will need. We also want to understand the impact on the client's life due to the injuries. For family law cases we need to know all the parties involved, some history between the parties, and the caller's desired outcome.
