Katya Banta has worked in the immigration field since 2009. She first worked as an immigration paralegal in both New York City and Tyler, TX. She earned her law degree and admission to the State Bar of Texas in 2020. She has worked with diverse clients on cases like asylum, cancellation of removal, withholding of removal, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), Adjustment Of Status (AOS), consular processing, Green Card renewal, waiver of inadmissibility, H1B, and Naturalization and Acquisition of citizenship cases.  Katya specializes in complicated cases, such as appealing USCIS and BIA decisions.  She also has expertise in more rare immigration programs, such as U-visa for crime victims, VAWA for victims of domestic violence, programs for military member families, and LIFE Act for immigrants whose relatives applied for them before 2001.  Additionally, Katya is an asset to local criminal law attorney community as an authority on advising to those attorneys' foreign-born clients on immigration consequences of any plea in a criminal court on those clients' immigration status. Katya holds dual Bachelor’s degrees in Human Resource Management and German from the University of Tennessee, a Master’s degree in Business Administration (focusing on International Business) from Hofstra University, and a Juris Doctorate from Mitchell Hamline School of Law. She is licensed to practice law in Texas, as well as to practice federal law, including immigration and naturalization law, in all 50 states and US territories. When not representing clients, Katya is active in keeping updated with the constant changes in immigration law through her active membership in American Immigration Lawyers Association and networking with fellow immigration attorneys around the country. Katya is a passionate advocate for immigrants. She has first-hand knowledge of the immigrant experience, having immigrated to the United States from Russia. In 2018, Mrs. Banta and family law attorney Jeremy Coe conducted a presentation for the Smith County Family Law Bar Association entitled “Immigration Issues in Family Law."  In 2022, Katya gave a presentation to the Smith County Bar Association on the intersection of family law specifically in the area of adoption of foreign-born children.
