Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

I took a custody case recently for a client that resided out of State, afterwards she told that she had previously spoken with several attorneys and that all of them had told her she could not win her case. She was happy when she left the courtroom with full custody of her daughter.

How did you build a successful practice?

By staying in the same location that I started 28 years ago, across the street from the County Courthouse and continuing a law practice where my grandfather practiced for 50 years, also by being as honest as I can be on the frontend of a case so as to try to not create unrealistic expectations.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

An attorney that is not afraid to tell them straight up what they NEED to hear even if it is not what they WANT to hear.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

While the law is the same across the State, I believe local knowledge is crucial to evaluating a case and in being able to give solid legal advice to a client as to what a Judge in that particular county is likely to do. It is also beneficial to know the local attorneys that you will likely be handling cases with and how each of them are to deal with.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

A free phone consultation is very limited in domestic relation matters and generally kept to a pretty generic nature to avoid potential conflicts of interest if not hired by that person, or even possibly creating a conflict with a client I am already representing. Criminal matters are discussed in a little more detail.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

Again this depends on the type of case but usually these are very limited discussions.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

I pride myself on being honest, sometimes brutally honest. That is not to say other attorneys in my community are not. There are plenty of very good attorneys in my community. I am however, not so much by choice, becoming one of the older ""longtime"" Bentonville attorneys, going into my 29th year.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Helping a deserving client win what would appear to be an unlikely outcome.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

I am an avid outdoorsman, hunt, fish, snow ski, and love working on my farm.

Are you involved in your community?

Yes I have lived in the same town I was born in, on the same family farm where I have raised 4 children, so I have been involved in the public school there my whole life. I have done the Public Address for my hometown high school football and basketball games for nearly 20 years and have belonged to the same church for over 50 years. I have served on the County fair board for over 15 years.
