About Ellen
Since 2005, Ellen has been honored to work with hundreds of immigrants and their employers and/or families. Her representation ranges from simple consultations to complex litigation in federal immigration court. She represents clients on family-based and employment-based petitions, as well as humanitarian applications including TPS, asylum, VAWA, and U-visas. Ellen represents clients before USCIS and Immigration Court throughout the United States and also represents clients before the Board of Immigration Appeals. Ellen has represented clients successfully on complex legal issues such as collateral immigration consequences of criminal convictions, constitutional challenges to guilty pleas, res judicata, 212(c), abandonment of lawful permanent residence, cancellation of removal, asylum, withholding of removal, and mandatory detention.
Since the summer of 2013 when the U.S. Supreme Court overruled DOMA (the Defense of Marriage Act), Ellen has had the privilege of working with same-sex families on marriage-based immigration matters. Working with clients on these cases during this wonderful moment in our country’s history of civil rights, has been exciting and deeply gratifying.
Since DOMA was overruled by the U.S. Supreme Court, all immigration benefits available to US citizens and their family members are available regardless of whether a same-sex marriage creates the qualifying relationship. Now, US citizens can petition for “green cards” for their same-sex spouses and the children of their same-sex spouses.
Prior to founding her own law practice, Ellen was a partner at two other small law firms and worked in non-profit organizations including the Victim Rights Law Center and Centro Presente.
She has lived and worked around the U.S. and also in Spain and Argentina. While in law school, she interned at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the Center for Justice and International Law in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Greater Boston Legal Services.

Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
Helping an asylum seeker obtain his green card through marriage. The asylum process is so slow that in the 8 years he\'s been waiting for a decision, he built a life and career in the US, fell in love, and married his US citizen spouse. Instead of needing to wait longer for an approval of his asylum application, we obtained a green card through his marriage.
How did you build a successful practice?
Hard work; attention to detail; dedication to client service and support; creating a workplace where my team and I love working and where my clients feel supported in their immigration journeys; constant evaluation of and improvement to our services.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
At minimum, a law license in the state where the practice; a clean record of disciplinary actions. Ideally, an attorney with experience in immigration law and a commitment to client-focused legal representation.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
Commitment to creating a client-focused experience. Our firm is more than lawyers doing legal work. We are team dedicated to supporting our clients through confusing, long, expensive legal processes. Our work is not just the outcome of the case; our work includes the experience that we give clients as they go through the process of achieving their immigration goals.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Every week I meet an unmarried couple who gets married at City Hall because we explained how, through a marriage-based immigration process, we can help them achieve their goal of starting, or continuing, their lives, their careers, and their futures in the United States.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
Raising my two kids; trying to train our family's dog; running (shorter road races that I used to run!); yoga (slower than I used to practice!); getting out to my tiny garden in Arlington, MA; being a co-leader of my daughter\'s Girl Scout Troop.
Are you involved in your community?
I live within walking distance of my office. My clients come from all over the world, but many of them live near my home and my office. I feel very much a part of my neighborhood, and I love helping my neighbors strengthen their lives, their careers, and their families in the US.
