About Elsa

Elsa Tobin brings more than a decade of courtroom experience to the firm of James P. Joseph & Associates. She began her career in the Nassau County District Attorney's office, prosecuting both minor and major criminal offenses. For much of that time she was assigned to the Burglary and Narcotics Bureau of the DA's Office, preparing cases and immersing herself in investigations and building cases for trial. "It was hands-on, important work," she says. "It was the best experience a young lawyer can receive. I was very fortunate." By being immersed in litigation, investigations and trials, it also served as an excellent precursor to matrimonial law, which has been Ms. Tobin's focus since joining James P. Joseph & Associates in 2004.

Today at James P. Joseph & Associates, Ms. Tobin's practice is dedicated to all aspects of divorce law, particularly case and trial preparation. "We are an excellent team, and we bring a high level of combined expertise to every case." She adds that, while most cases settle prior to an actual courtroom trial, "we prepare every case with that possibility in mind. A well documented, well prepared case strengthens our clients' position, and results in significantly better settlements." While at most matrimonial firms each attorney carries a heavy caseload, JPJ&A pride itself on maintaining manageable caseloads. What's more, Ms. Tobin maintains a flexible schedule, enabling her to focus on specific cases in a manner not otherwise possible.

Ms. Tobin, a Long Island native, also has a unique personal connection to the firm: She and Mr. Joseph met while attending Hofstra University Law School, and they wed in 1995. They have two young daughters.
