Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
In St. Charles County Circuit Court Mr. Boehmer's client was on parole for murder in Texas when law enforcement found a gun at his home in Missouri and was therefore charged with a felony of unlawfully possessing a weapon. Eric's arguments during trial on behalf of his client were able to sway the jury into rendering a verdict of not-guilty. Consequently, his parole violation was dropped and he was released from jail. In St. Charles County Circuit Court, Mr. Boehmer's client had his home searched and electronics seized. Upon an investigation by law enforcement, images of child pornography were found. Mr. Boehmer was able to enter into an agreement that involved his client simply paying for restitution of the cost of the investigation in exchange for no charges being filed against the client and no further action being taken. In Lincoln County State Court Eric successfully argued a motion to suppress the state's evidence that the state planned to introduce at trial. Due to Eric's expert legal knowledge, the judge granted an order refraining the state from being able to use their evidence at trial. Subsequently, the state had nothing to move forward to trial on, and the state was forced was to dismiss the felony possession charges.
How did you build a successful practice?
Through hard work, continuous education and knowledge of the legal system, working as an assistant prosecuting attorney early in my career, and being available for clients whenever possible through special appointment times and a legal hotline. After fifteen years of building a great reputation, my referral base continues to grow because I work hard for every client no matter what their legal matter is. I have excellent support staff and believe that every person deserves a great legal defense.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
You want a lawyer who has confidence and knowledge of the law. I recommend finding someone with experience both inside and outside of a courtroom. Many lawyers do not like to take a case to trial. When you interview your lawyer before hiring them, make sure you ask questions like: What types of experiences have they had? Have they ever tried a case before a jury--and if necessary and in the best interest of the client--are they willing to take this case to trial? Your initial visit is where you can find out a lot about your lawyer--so take the time to ask all the questions you need answered to feel confident in hiring them to represent you.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
My family has lived in the St. Charles , MO area for at least eight generations. Having great relationships in a community can make a difference in being able to help your clients. When you have practiced law in an area for almost 15 years as I have, you get to know the other attorneys, the law enforcement, the judges and the prosecuting attorneys. Being a long time member and worker of a community gives you an advantage in helping your client and helping fight for the best possible outcome of their case.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
I can discuss the types of law that I practice, my past experiences, some information about their case, and an over-all basic strategy of how I would handle their case.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
We can discuss the basic, general information about your case--what happened, who was involved and what were the charges? In some cases, we can discuss more details if you are out of town--but essentially we want to make sure we handle the type of legal matters you are needing help with so we either set an initial free consultation or recommend another course of action if needed.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
Since I live, work, and support my community I care about the people who live here. I have over 15 years of legal experience in this community and have won 6 national legal awards for my legal performance and costumer service. I work hard, and have a great winning track record both in and out of the courtroom to show how hard I fight for my client's rights.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Every individual deserves to have their story heard and has the right to a legal defense. Being an attorney provides me the opportunity to help people at a time in their lives that can be very scary and uncertain. I listen to their side of an event and then discuss how I feel I can help them in their defense. When I am able to prove someone's innocence, or get their charges dismissed gives me the satisfaction of knowing I helped make a difference in someone's life.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
I enjoy playing golf, tennis and soccer. I enjoy traveling and exploring St. Louis and all the wonderful things the city has to offer. I enjoy fishing, hunting and camping outdoors. I also enjoy concerts and playing card games with my family.
Are you involved in your community?
Yes, I attend many fund raising events and help out at events for local schools and charitable organizations like The Crisis Nursery, The Saint Vincent De Paul Society, and others. I also do speaking engagements at local schools at career days to discuss what it is like being a lawyer.
