Small dimly lit bar and grill in the basement of the Cheshire Inn annex. Appetizers were very tasty. Service was wonderful. Pasta was very good as well. Cool vibe due to the dim lights. Lots of TVs around the bar area for the games. Considering the current environment, reasonable prices as well. Smallish free parking lot, but there might also be parking underneath the Cheshire.
The meatballs are everything!!! Their happy hour pizza is huge and I’m still regretting not getting any. But I had 2 orders of meatballs!!! The sangria was okay but their happy hour choices were limited and I’m a whisky girl so I’m not a big wine drinker… bartenders and servers were great!! The atmosphere was nice and chill!! Not too loud, not a lot of loud TV’s blaring either. I really enjoyed myself. And I hate I didn’t get anyone’s names but they were all great!!
Basso in Clayton is located right across from a hotel. After struggling for parking in the hotel garage, I descended from the German architecture into a dimly lit sports bar and restaurant. The first thing you notice is that it’s dark and loud. It feels like a speakeasy but a little less forbidden! The restaurant was lit with gas lamps and the tables with candles! My friend and I got the Woodfire Burger, previously called the Basso Burger. The burger itself was delicious! It had a little of that classic charcoal taste and had some vegetables neatly packed under the patty for a hearty bite. It comes with a side of truffle fries, tossed in truffle oil and dusted with parmesan. The fries were extremely salty and absolutely to die for! The burger was good, but the fries were excellent! Our server, Amanda (?) was super friendly and sweet. My only complaint would be that the inside was so loud that my friend and I had to scream at each other, and we still couldn’t hear each other. Not the destination for an intimate friend date but a great place to have fun with a group! Overall a great experience! Thanks, Basso!
It's a fun little bar with great atmosphere. Beware that you must go down several stairs upon entering, so think it through when picking out what shoes to wear as high heels, drinks, and stairs can make an interesting combination. That being said, we've been coming here for years and it's always a good time. The Vegetable side dishes are fantastic as are the drinks. They are usually able to accommodate my food allergies by making substitutions and recommendations, which is very much appreciated. They basically share a parking lot with the Cheshire Hotel, where we usually stay when in town, making them a great place to walk over to, have several drinks, and make it back safely.
This was our first time here. Food was excellent, well worth the price. Waitress was really nice and got our food out super quickly. I haven't been to a restaurant with that kind of atmosphere before so it was definitely a treat. We'll be coming back sometime soon
