Troy and Livi (sometimes Sarah) were my chosen legal team to represent me in my divorce case. The Ogden office is a nice facility, and I was made to feel welcome and comfortable. The consultation was very informative, no pressure, and I left there feeling as though I was in safe hands. They were professional and kept me updated on all proceedings as it progressed. In my case, for me the stakes were high. I couldn’t have asked for a better resolution, and I believe it was even fair and equitable. My son has cancer so I was nervous about getting a divorce in the middle of treatment, but Ryan made the whole process easier and much less overwhelming. I asked so many questions and he always answered quickly and thoroughly, which was important because things were getting complicated with my son’s treatment and custody. He was great in mediation, too. 10/10 awesome 100% recommend!

This is a difficult review to write, since I worked with some amazing people here. I was originally going to give 3 stars, but have decided that since the majority of my bill was my attorney, the majority of my rating should be based on his performance, or lack thereof. My experience with Troy can be summed up as expensive and frustrating. During one of my earlier meetings, he told me he “knew some great mediators,” but never bothered to explain to me when and why I needed one. The first document I received from him was a very vague Petition, with missing information - that they had requested and I provided - and had no provisions that I wanted and several I disagreed with. Yet somehow, they had billed almost my entire $3,000 retainer to produce this one draft. When I questioned the egregious amount, Troy simply dismissed it as “sticker shock” and provided no further explanation, so I declined to discuss the petition further. I met with the managing attorney, Ken; he was very kind, knowledgeable, and attempted to fix the situation, even giving some billing credit. He explained to me how my case should have been handled and answered all of my questions that Troy was either unable or unwilling to in all of our conversations combined. Ken convinced me to continue working with Troy, which I now deeply regret. It’s my understanding that Ken spoke with Troy about the issues that day, yet I did not hear from Troy for over a week; and when I did, he called me from his car and spoke over top of me the entire time. I ended up having to draft my own Settlement Agreement and provide it to Troy; no mediator, no professional assistance. All of this while trying to help my wife, who was pro se; since the plan was for me to hire an attorney to simply help us with paperwork. Everything said and done, just short of $6,000 for a divorce that never went to court, nor even went to mediation, and I was left to learn the law and draft documents on my own, something that should never be burdened on a paying client. Now, I would like to thank those who were good to me. Livi, my paralegal, who was new to the position but performed above and beyond expectation. Darin, the financial manager, who helped me several times with billing questions and concerns. Ken, who took the time to meet with me and attempt to remedy the situation. And Caprice, who always answered the phone with a smile in her voice and helped me with scheduling and getting in touch with everyone. So, my final takeaway for you is, this isn’t necessarily a bad firm, they come highly recommended; but they appear to have a bad apple amongst them. Also, the divorce was eventually finalized; but the amount of stress that was placed on me getting there was not even by my now ex-wife, but by the professional who was supposed to be representing me and my best interests.

Burton Law Firm has represented me more than once. Each time, my rights were the main concern. Having Troy Jensen as my attorney and Livi as my paralegal was a great choice!
