Navigating a divorce is never easy. It’s emotional, overwhelming, and frankly, something you can never truly prepare for. I was referred to Verhaeghe Law Office by a close friend, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made during the hardest chapter of my life. Tim Verhaeghe was the lawyer I worked with—and let me just say, I couldn’t have asked for anyone better. What sets this firm apart, and Tim in particular, isn’t just the legal expertise (which is top-tier), but the rare combination of professionalism, empathy, strategic thinking, and a genuine commitment to his clients’ well-being—not just their case file. From day one, Tim took the time to truly listen. He didn’t rush through the consult, didn’t give generic advice, and didn’t sugarcoat anything. He laid out all the possibilities—best and worst case—with transparency and clarity. He wanted me informed, prepared, and empowered, not just represented. That alone was a massive difference compared to my previous legal experience. What people may not realize from reading a quick review is that Tim brings decades of practical experience, but he still treats every case with fresh eyes and care. I was never made to feel like “just another file” or “a standard divorce client.” He knew my kids’ names, understood the unique emotional stakes I was facing, and was laser-focused on making sure the outcome worked long-term—not just looked good on paper. One thing I especially appreciated: Tim is not a “scorched-earth” divorce lawyer. He’s strategic. He knows when to push, when to hold, and when to fight like hell—and he does it with integrity. In my case, that meant resolving things more efficiently and with less hostility than I expected, without compromising what was fair. The staff at Verhaeghe Law Office were also phenomenal. The communication was clear and timely, billing was transparent, and I was always kept in the loop. I never once had to chase updates or feel like I was left in the dark. They also understood the toll a divorce can take mentally and emotionally, and they created a space where I felt supported—not judged. Another thing most people don’t know: Verhaeghe Law has deep roots in Alberta, and that local knowledge gives them a serious advantage. Tim’s familiarity with local judges, court procedures, and opposing counsel was something I didn’t even realize would be so important. It absolutely worked in my favour. I walked into this process feeling unsure, emotionally drained, and scared. I walked away not only with a fair and balanced resolution—but with my dignity intact and a stronger sense of self. That’s because of Tim Verhaeghe and the team behind him. If you’re looking for someone who will go beyond the paperwork, someone who will actually care about you, and someone who knows how to get results while keeping things grounded and respectful—this is the firm you want, and Tim is the lawyer you need. This isn’t just legal help. This is life-changing support, the kind that genuinely makes a difference
Tim Verhaeghe was absolutely amazing with helping me through my legal separation. He is easy to work with, he was always quick to respond, gave me honest and sound advice, and was truly there when I needed him. I cannot recommend him and his team enough! Thank you Tim for all of your help through the most difficult time of my life!
My partner retained Joe Sumiya as his divorce lawyer in February 2021. Joe was consistently ill prepared for court appearances (not conveying facts, mixing facts up, not being prepared to respond to questions and challenges), didn’t present his client’s position properly, and his written work was often riddled with errors - both factual and grammatical. We always had to revise anything he produced for fear (with good reason) of it being incorrect or poorly written. We have all of this documented. We talked to Joe about it many times. We even wrote to the partners about Joe’s poor performance and seeking a differently lawyer (we were willing to stay with the firm) but our concerns were brushed off; told to ride it out with Joe. Inevitably, we eventually had enough of the huge legal bills and very few results. We found another lawyer who, within a few months, won us shared parenting. We then settled the matrimonial property quickly and without court or trial based on her incredible mediation and negotiation skills. With our new lawyer, we spent a fraction of what Joe charged us and we had a person who really fought for us. If you’re looking for a great lawyer, don’t go with Sumiya. You deserve to have your lawyer fight for you, present well, and respond to your emails/calls within a reasonable amount of time. Joe will do none of this for you.
Mr. Timothy Snyder supported my divorce file after settlement negotiations stalled and the case went to trial, and I couldn't have been more satisfied with his representation bringing my divorce settlement to a close after five long years. From the start, he demonstrated a deep understanding of the complexities of my case and did everything he could to ensure the best possible outcome. Tim was not only highly professional but also incredibly persistent. He fought tirelessly for my interests and never pressured me into settling for less than I deserved. His guidance gave me confidence throughout the process, and his strategic approach in court was outstanding. Thanks to Tim, I felt supported during one of the most challenging times of my life. I highly recommend him to anyone facing a difficult legal situation—he’s a dedicated advocate who truly puts his clients first. Tim is well worth the investment.
Tim was incredible. He helped up with our first home purchase and made sure we were confident and comfortable with everything we signed off on. I will be recommending his services to anyone I know buying and/or selling a home!
