Terrible experience with this law firm. We hired them to ammend an out-of-state will to SC. Our current will was recent and only completed a few years ago. We asked what the cost would be before agreeing and we were told it would be reasonable due to the will was already in place and we were only making minor changes. We were also told it would be billed at the lower associate rate of $350 per hour. When we had the meeting, the attorney pushed hard to include much more than we wanted and were completely ridiculous. For instance, he wanted our children to receive monthly reports of our assets so they could keep track of their inheritance, which was never going to happen. We had only two minor changes and made that very clear. When the draft came back, some of the items the attorney was pushing for were included anyway. After several emails and more pushback, they were removed. Despite being very clear in our meeting, they made sure they padded the work. Either that or they simply didn't listen. The initial bill only had the amount due and it was not itemized. What law firm does not send an itemized bill? We asked for an itemized bill and they then increased it by $400 and told us they were discounting it by $400 due to the unrequested work, resulting in the same amount due as the first bill. There were also much higher billable hours from other attorneys with higher rate, this was never approved. This all was for a simple will amendment. Our initial meeting was inflated in time as well as being charged for all the things we never wanted or asked for resulting in a crazy expensive bill. They had no interest in doing the right thing after numerous exchanges. There are plenty of good and ethical lawyers in Charleston, in our experience, this is not one of them.
