Beware the web site that gives false and misleading information. I need an great appeals attorney so I called Baez. The female that answered said they don't do any civil appeals and they can't "waste their time talking to someone about a civil appeal." I said, "What about in another state like Illinois? Your web site says you have a network all over the country that might be able to help." She said, "Like I said, we don't do anything civil," and rudely hung up on me. To quote the web page, an exact copy and paste....... "We have a large network of lawyers specializing in appeals nationwide, which means that no matter where you are located, The Baez Law Firm draws from its resources to provide you with the best appellate team. Contact our Orlando appeals lawyers today." Civil Appeals "Like criminal appeals, civil appeals are matters in the appellate courts after losing at trial. Civil appeals vary widely by practice area, but all appeals are similar in that they focus on a limited issue or set of issues that the court will focus on in order to reverse the trial court’s ruling. Because appeals involve detailed and specific procedures, you should discuss your case with an experienced Orlando appeals lawyer. The Baez Law Firm has experienced appellate lawyers ready to work on your case." "A loss at the trial court level does not mean that your case is over. The Baez Law Firm is ready to discuss your avenues for appeal today. Please call us at 800-588-BAEZ."
I had an excellent experience with The Baez Law Firm, they had my best interest at heart from the beginning. From the moment you walk through the door and speak with their wonderful receptionist Kiana, they take your case on as if you were a family member. My attorney Sean Landers was absolutely and unequivocally qualified to deal with anything and everything in front of him. He spoke with me and put my mind at ease knowing he was going to handle my case with the utmost professionalism as well as putting fourth the effort to properly represent me. His Knowledge of the law and his experience in the court room will help ensure you that you chose the proper law firm to represent you. Kiana was extremely prompt, polite, and professional with keeping me in the loop of everything i had to do and everything that they would handle. Her help along with her knowledge made this stressful process much easier for me and my family. If anyone is in the unfortunate position of needing legal help, the wonderful team at the Baez Law Firm will make the process as simple and pain free as possible. I would not think twice to recommend this team of professionals to handle any legal representation that you may need.
I was a paralegal in NYC years ago and know how much difference the right (or sometimes wrong) counsel can make affecting outcome. Not having FL experience when a summons came my way, my attorneys in CA recommended Baez. Thank God I did. Great job guys!
Great Firm!! Kiana is usually the person on the phone when you call, she is very pleasant to speak with as well as very knowledgeable and friendly. Calls you by your name and makes you feel you are the most important at all times , you get a Team with this Firm. Sean Landers is definitely qualified to deal with our case. My Neice was put at ease the first moment she met with Sean. You could just sense a relief in her mind she now had the best defense. Sean's knowledge of Law and experience in the Court Room is a site to see. Our family is very Grateful for Sean Landers. My Neice was Found not guilty when a prior attorney said to consider a plea. If you are in need of Legal Council the Baez Firm will not disappoint Thank You so much, Sean and Kiana.
The Baez Law Firm (BLF)’s negligence, incompetence, appalling lack of due diligence, and total disregard for client’s interest and fee agreement terms got me a first degree murder conviction and sentenced to life without parole. BLF represented me as lead attorney by pro hac vice in a 1st degree murder case from Feb 2017 to Feb 6, 2018. It was by far the worst pretense of a legal representation I ever had. INACCESSIBILITY: Despite costing me $295,000, Jose Baez spent no more than 2.5 hours total discussing my case with me throughout the entire case. All combined calls and visits totalled under 2.5 hours. REFUSAL TO RETURN DISCOVERY IN BREACH OF CONTRACT: BLF refused to return any of my discovery, esp. some hard drives I repeatedly requested be returned to my family after trial. It is intentionally and maliciously depriving me of my own discovery because it knows the drives contain my life's work for 20 years in them and are important to me, and 2) it wants more money and is using the drives as leverage. VIOLATION OF ATTORNEY-CLIENT PRIVILEGE: On 10/12/17, the firm disclosed to me in a private meeting details of murder confession from famous high-profile client & others from the past in an attempt to pressure me to confess. He said everyone confessed, and told details of past clients' confessions. Given this practice and my complaint, it's likely BLF will violate my attorney-client privilege too. BLF'S NEGLIGENCE RESULTED IN KEY EVIDENCE THAT SHOULD'VE BEEN KEPT OUT BEING ADMITTED: Per Rule 16, all discovery must be provided at least 35 days before trial. As of 12/20/17, my trial date was 1/16/18. 35 days before trial was 12/12/17. On 12/13/17 (34 days before trial hence too late), the DA sent new discovery that was key to my conviction. Also, since the last time I waived time for speedy trial purpose was 7/14/17, 186 days before trial, the DA and judge would not have been able to postpone the trial for purpose of admitting this new evidence if I refused to waive time (at least not without providing good appeal grounds). On 12/20/17, I called Michelle Medina because I knew I'd be asked to waive time on 12/22 and wanted to know what was in the 12/13 discovery. Michelle told me it had nothing harmful, and to waive time on 12/22, so I did. In Jan, I learned there was DNA evidence in that 12/13 batch, whereas there had been none previously. When Michelle told me there was nothing harmful in the 12/13 discovery on 12/20, she had not even looked at that discovery. She simply lied. This key evidence could have been kept out had my attorneys not been so negligent. CONFLICT OF INTEREST: When Jose asked how much I had for the case, I said $300k including expenses. He was happy to take the case for $300k with expenses included. When I asked to separate attorney fees from expenses in the contract to avoid a conflict of interest, his solution was to specify attorney fees of $300k, with the last $25k due at end of trial and the verbal understanding (in a recorded phone call dated 1/4/17 available in my discovery) it would be waived if we lost. He capped expenses at 20k, after which the firm would be responsible. Once I paid the 20k in expenses, of course, the BLF did not want to incur any expense for my case and continued to pressure me for tens of thousands despite the contract clearly stating they were responsible. They used my 20k in reckless travel expenses, staying at the Broadmoor at $1289.93 per night for weekend getaways without even visiting me at the jail. Jose wanted to pocket the rest of my money. This conflict of interest was unethical and greatly impacted my case. Defending a murder case without calling a single expert witness at the trial out of greed is preposterous. When Jose found out about a check for the sale of my car during trial, he tried to have me sign it over and even got the judge involved as damage control when I refused and kept his letter as evidence. BLF is extremely dishonest, greedy, shady, unethical. They did the bare minimum work, represented me very incompetently, and got me a life sentence.
