I have gone to several auctions that these guys have held over the years. Their auctions are different, fair, and fun. But tonight I was having trouble getting to their online bidding and so I emailed them. I was surprised to get a quick email back at about 9 pm with instructions. The most important thing that they understand is that auctions have to be profitable, adrenaline inducing, AND entertaining.

Kevin was to appraise our personal property for our divorce. Upon arriving, as I was legally expected, he became agitated and totally unprofessional being curt and rude to me and left the premises in a huff. When he did finally do the appraisal - when promised it would be in time for court - he was unable to complete it in time. However, when it was delivered on the day of court it was not admissible - as no one had seen it. Upon receipt of the appraisal he caveated, on the first page, just after the invoice of $1,100.00, that he was unable to appropriately value a very large part of the items due to "time constraints". Therefore the appraisal is inadequate and unreliable for values - the sole purpose of the appraisal. As a professional, he had an obligation to communicate that he would not be able to complete the appraisal appropriately without additional time. As previously stated, he did not have the professionalism to do so. As a result, we paid top dollar for a useless appraisal; therefore paying for his lack of professionalism and a completely inadequate appraisal. Apparently his fee was more valuable to him than his reputation to provide correct and complete information.

F........ all the way.... VERY UNHAPPY experience today at auction. I was the HIGH BIDDER on a lot with a reserve that was not met. I immediately called the auction house to ask them what the reserve was while the auction was still going....so that I could still purchase the item. After the auction was over, the auctioneer himself called me...Kevin...to let me know what the reserve was. I told him I would speak with my husband quickly and call back with an affirmative yes on the reserve purchase price. I called back shortly multiple times, and got a voicemail for the auctioneer and left him a message stating we would be willing to pay up to the reserve amount if that was necessary to secure the item for us. To my horrific surprise, he instead called me back hours later to non chalantly tell me that ven though I was the HIGH BIDDER on the auction...and that I had called to ask reserve, and offered to meet the reserve...he sold my item to someone else after the auction ended for less than the total amount that I was willing to pay up to and offered him!!!! The auctioneer knew we were willing to pay up to the asking price if needed and still went ahead and sold my item to someone else!...without even calling me to let me know that hes selling it out from under me. For hours we have been waiting on his call to complete the sale! I spend a great deal of money on auctions and have never had this happen before...ever... I was potentially going to purchase another item from the same auction for $10,000 that also didn't meet the reserve, and now I will NOT be doing this as this auctioneer and company are NOT trustworthy, unethical, and the auctioneer literally sold my item agreed to purchase out from under me; even though I offered to pay more than the item was sold for behind my back! **** If this company was ethical and / or cared...then the consignor would be notified that I offered more $ for the item than the back alley deal the auctioneer actually sold the item for, ....and the auctioneer would agree to do the right thing...sell the item to me...the person that was the HIGHEST BIDDER on auction, that took the initiative to call 1st!!!!!! multiple times, email, and that actually offered the HIGHEST bid amount for the item. We had a deal and the auctioneer defaulted with a back alley deal! My husband called the auctioneer to kindly and respectfully express his opinion on what the auctioneer did behind our backs...sold our item to another bidder for less than what we offered and agreed on; after knowing we had the high bid already, and had contacted the auctioneer before ANYONE else to ensure that we won the item... The auctioneer won't answer the phone and it's obvious that he does NOT CARE that we made a deal, then he backed out and sold my item to someone else for MUCH less $ ! HORRIBLE business ethics, this is NOT how you do business with someone that has thousands of dollars to spend at your auctions! This is honestly the WORST experiences I have ever had with an auctioneer/ company. Do yourself a favor...go somewhere else to purchase your items...this company does NOT care about ethics, morals, or doing the "right thing"

Liars. Subpar sales practices. No "national, international" internet presence as promised, evidenced by all my 195 lots of 240 items sold only to people present in Holt auction warehouse. I did see "online" bidders, rarely, from MY CITY & 2 surrounding cities. I clicked on the simulcast portion of my auction and the message stated that my auction did not have this feature , as again I was promised simulcast but did not receive such . Kevin must be doing his local re-sealers buddies a favor by selling to them for ($2.00 average) dirt cheap. You would fair much better selling your wares at your own garage sale. Any good reviews here would understandably come from the people who buy at his auctions in person as they are getting everything for a steal. And I was stressed out by the crappy pictures posted online and the extremely ridiculous, child like and non-descriptively sparse wording the items were given. But since I was lied to and there was no online advertising across the country, I was stressed over nothing. They knew that the only people who would really be viewing the items would be those who came into their warehouse and could care less about internet advertising. The retired guy taking the pictures only gave most items one shot and any small items were taken so far away you couldn't tell what they were. And as for the unrealistic wording of the items written by Kevin's late 70s/ 80+ year old mother, please hire a professional or at the very least quit arguing with the owner of the items and write down exactly what the item is. An aborigine didgeridoo is not simply a bugle. I take the time to write this not to hurt anyone's feelings but to warn the public that what you are being told by Kevin Holt is not what will be sold in the way you were hoping.
