The Ervin Law Office occupies the Willcox Building, which is located on the historic Public Square in Darlington, SC. In 1891, Dr J.C. Willcox purchased the old US Post Office site from local attorney JJ Ward and the Willcox Building was completed the following year. The two-story brick commercial building has a unique ornate cast iron and tin facade above the first floor with the name Willcox and Co. in the center of the facade. The Willcox Building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Willcox Building was one of only two buildings on the south side of the Public Square that survived a disastrous fire in 1930. Today it is the only reminder of the impressive structures which once lined that block. Dr. Willcox built another building of significance that was destroyed by the 1930 fire, the Enterprise Hotel. The interior was completely renovated in 1992 by Jay Ervin, Gene Warr and former SC Governor, David Beasley, when the firm was known as Beasley, Ervin and Warr. Jay Ervin has practiced law in the Willcox Building since the purchase and renovation in 1992. Although the interior is very functional as a law office, the exterior retains its architecturally unique and historic appearance.

Takes all comers concerning different areas of law. Made decisions concerning my family court dispute that were devoid of logic and reason, gave no explanation as to the manner in which he arrived at his conclusion, conflicted with prior determinations, and embodies the very essence of “arbitrary and capricious”. When he was called in reference to his either impotence or refusal to represent me as an ethical attorney should he still failed to demonstrate any logic, reason or evidence to support his lack of advocacy. Still, he made sure to bill me for phone calls concerning my questions about HIS poor performance. He is diligent in attending Gamecock football games and enjoying his beer, as I have seen him doing so on more than one occasion. May he should forgo the booze and events and spend more time helping clients like me who are at home going through abject misery. After I posted this review I received an email from Mr. Ervin’s paralegal. The email included an attachment that I didn’t bother to open. I’ll make a reckless assumption here and claim it likely contained language either threatening me or asking me to remove the review. I responded by reminding Mr. Ervin that I still have every piece of paperwork, including all emails in a container which is inside my safe. These records also include recordings of every conversation, in person or on the phone, that took place between us. In SC it is legal for a conversation to be recorded as long as one party is aware of it. I openly challenge him to take any legal action (injunction, libel suit, ect.) against me. It would only serve to erode his reputation even further. And in general, don’t bother filing a complaint against an attorney with the South Carolina Commission on Lawyer Conduct. They punish only the most egregious violations of the rules. Their main purpose is to protect their lupine kin. As of 4/17/22 no response from Mr. Ervin. Try it, I dare you.
My family and I have used Mr. Ervin for many years and he has always been top notch. I recently used him in my divorce. He is very knowledgeable in family law. He and his office staff were very courteous and helpful. My family and I will continue to use him for all of our legal needs.
My experience with Ervin Law office was awesome. Mr. Ervin and his team are very thorough, and they work very hard to make sure that your satisfied. He's fair and honest. I will definitely recommend anyone to come in his office, if your in a jam.
I received a speeding ticket from a highway trooper that was going the opposite direction of me and gave me a ticket that was for a 70 in a 55 when i was going 60. (had my cruise control on) i was worried and called this law office because it had the highest ratings and spoke with Mr ErvIn myself and he was very promising on the phone about seeking the best possible solution! I was very happy and satisfied with the service when i received a call from them saying my ticket had been dismissed! i highly recommend using them for anything you need handled by and attorney!
I met with John Ervin for the 2nd time. He is always personable, knowledgeable, patient, kind and eager to assist. Even though he wasn't able to assist me, he gave me numerous options that I could explore to resolve my situation and I was grateful for that.
