************** PLEASE READ!!!!! *************** I'm a travel nurse from Alabama and had accepted an assignment in Jaffrey, when my prior assignment in Maryland was ending early. I quickly found that rental options there were extremely limited, especially with a pet. I first saw an ad on, I think Marketplace, for a cottage and it gave the address. When I googled the address I was led to the ad on the Hampsey & Grenier website (the tan cottage). I contacted Mike Grenier and did send him a deposit to secure the cottage. I arrived approximately a week later to the address listed, and found the blue cottage there. It was old, not updated, and not very clean, but I was there and would make it work.. until I opened the closet in the bedroom ???? (the other pics). Yes, that is nasty water standing in the bottom there. And it had overflowed at some point because the flooring in front of the closet was soft. And the hole you see in the back wall of the closet? A mouse nest down in it.. When Mike came to get the rest of his money and I asked him what that was in the closet, that I was concerned about it for numerous reasons, he said it was a pump that pumped in water to the house. When I questioned him if that belonged in a bedroom closet he said it was "normal" to put them in a closet. So, having no where else to go, I decided I would have to make it work, and I paid him the rest of the money. So, for seven days, I cleaned and sealed up holes and sprayed for spiders that kept crawling out, and tried my best to make it feel comfortable enough to stay in there, but I couldn't. I packed up, returned what I could of things I had bought for it, and drove back home. I let Mike know and I told him that any money that he could return to me would be greatly appreciated. After all, I had given him $1800. ($900 for deposit, $900 for the rent, and $900 for his "finder's fee"). That was June 26 2021 and not a penny has he returned. I've contacted him several times and it's always an excuse. I was only there for 7 days (7 very stressful days) and he had not even given me the info yet to get utilities changed over to me. I feel that I was greatly taken advantage of and I HIGHLY QUESTION HIS ETHICS AND MORALS.
Called to try and see if they had any leads on an apartment they had one but I would have to get rid of my service animal to get it and then on top of that they want a whole months rent as a finders fee which is absolutely insane even in this market no thanks!!! I would stay far away from this place!
Mike was helpful in getting us a rental. We were charged first month plus a full months equivalent as a security deposit and a finder's fee which is half of one months rent , for us that was $3750 in total just to get into the house. He is not a real estate agent therefore I do not believe he can charge the finders fee, which is non refundable.
My friend and I were both in separate apartments and decided to move in together to save money. We were both on disability at the time. He was born disabled and I was recovering from an injury. His significant other was working. Hampsey absolutely refused to speak to me or my friend because we were on disability and he would only speak to the significant other and flat out admitted it was because they were working and we weren't. We had over 10 years of good rental history and landlord references to prove that we were good tenants. Super judgmental of him to assume we must be scum and refuse to even speak to us. Needless to say my friend and I split the rent 50/50 and it was always paid in full on time. The significant other never helped with rent or bills. We heard from our landlady that when we first moved in Hampsey charged both her and I for his finders fee. I've heard many other people have had similar experiences with him. He probably rips people off to help with his coke habit. Ya... everyone knows.
DO NOT RENT OR BUY FROM THIS BUSINESS. Rented a place in fitzwilliam and they were great until 3 months in the owner calls and asks why I am not paying rent on time. I tell them I am and they ask me to send directly to them because Hampsey and Grenier are paying them over a month late and blaming me. Had issues with house that they barely helped to resolve..the the best part....I move out and the maintenance guy locks my $400 lawn mower in the shed and wont answer calls. The owners wont answer and now its been OVER A YEAR and Ive asked Mike grenier (the part owner) at least 10 times to get it back and he doesnt care enough to even make a phone call. One phone call and 2 minutes of his time to get my property back but he wont help out. Very unprofessional STAY AWAY or youll regret dealing with these guys
