You've Been Charged with a DUI: Now What?

1. Don't Panic...Prepare - Collect any paperwork the officer gave you, and put it in a file folder or envelope. You'll want to take this to your first meeting with a lawyer. Before meeting with your lawyer, take time to note all the details surrounding the day or night of your arrest. Every detail is significant and could provide the evidence needed to beat your drunk driving charges.

2. Find a Lawyer Whose Specialty is DUI Defense - When it comes to handling DWIs, not all lawyers are created equal. Driving while impaired defense is a highly specialized, highly technical field. You need a lawyer who's demonstrated success at every level of the DWI process, from pre-trial motions all the way through trial. Your lawyer should be an expert in field sobriety testing administration and interpretation, and should know the tests better than the officer.

3. Prepare for the Realistic Costs of Defending Your DWI Case - I know you weren't planning on this expense, but it does cost money to defend your case.  The right lawyer can prevent you from going to jail, losing your job, paying higher insurance rates, and everything else that can go along with getting a DWI.  I offer my services at a flat rate.
