We are very grateful for the legal advice received from Joe. From the very beginning, Joe demonstrated a deep understanding of our situation and provided expert guidance. He was not only knowledgeable about the relevant laws and regulations but also showed a genuine commitment to ensuring that our rights as tenants were protected. I went here seeking help for Landlord issues and did not receive any advice other than how to pull out my checking book and spend money. As a student and tenant, there is nothing worse than hearing no, especially regarding things such as Landlord problems. When I arrived, I waited around 15 minutes after my appointment time which was honestly disrespectful to my schedule. Not only this but the unhelpful legal aid provided, did not help me with anything but walking out of the door. He stared at the clock and seemed to not listen to anything I had said. I wasn't sure if this experience happened because I am black. However, a white student came in to say hi, and he had moments to share with her but rushed me out of the office before my time was up. Beware that this service is not equitable to all students, especially those of color. I hope the Legal Services Office reads this and can reflect and change behavior so all students can utilize this resource and get help. I do want to acknowledge that Donna and the front desk student work study were both very helpful. I came into this office with confidence and hope and left with sadness, tears and high anxiety.

The services are really great, especially for being free for students! I went there for help with a sublease agreement and the lawyer walked me through the process and gave me the necessary paperwork. The only downside is that I had to wait 20 minutes after my appointment; tip- allow for at least an hour for this, in case they are running a half hour late!

Have used this free service two times. (1) To waive off my medical bill of $200.00, (2) Another to help someone get justice in a serious case. This place is fantastic. Go visit once -- if you got problem with landlord, driving tickets, unexpected bills etc. I recently save 6-800 on speeding ticket, just by using the advice from this place and writing a letter to district attorney. People at SLS are helpful and awesome. Thanks to the Graduate Student Organization and Student Association of Syracuse University for establishing such a unique service for students.

Student Legal Services is helpful for international students who aren’t aware of all the laws . They are patient and go out of their way to help you in any way they can.
