Kids First Law Center

During the process of my divorce I was laid off and my ex (jobless despite my repeated pleas for him to get a job over nearly a 3 year period) requested our kids get a lawyer which at the time was supposed to be free of service. I want not informed of their sliding scale fees after I became employed. The kids lawyer met with them less than a handful of times promising her job was to advocate for their best interests. Was maybe 5 -1 hour visits to dairy queen. Today I received a court appointed bill for $560 for their services despite the fact I did not request the service from the start. The same lawyer promised me I wouldn't ever have to worry about paying child support (I have the kids majority of the time). In my divorce it was settled there is no child support. I couldn't financially support seeing it through for it to be established and risk loosing my house. With bringing this issue up the company has agreed to review their policy on the sliding scale so it might be more conducive for the divorce process when this company is involved. Although I was up happy by the process and the pieces it took to get here, I am content with the final results.

Very friendly, very helpful. My clients have used the mediation services and the drop off and pick up services. They truly want the best for the children involved. They made sure it was fair, even though it went against my client.

I was going to let people know what a horrible experience my children had with this law firm so parents would be aware ... but in doing some research I began to realize I do not have to say negative things.... just call any attorney in Cedar Rapids or the surrounding area and the DO NOT RECCOMEND by any means this law firm . In my own opinion they should change the name from Kids first to what parent they favor the most law firm and disregard the kids opinions .... the staff is rude and very disrespectful and quite obtuse in their views ! My kids attorney name was Ms Haack .... but should change it to Ms Hack... my own MINOR Children recused her as their counsel due to the lack of interest she showed them . I guess they were FREE COURT APPT for a reason !

This is a wonderful service for families in Iowa. I'm surprised that this kind of representation for kids isn't provided elsewhere.
