My experience with Smith and White was positive from start to finish. I was treated with patience and respect. No question, email or phone call went unanswered. They made sure I understood every step and stood right beside me when it mattered . I felt like a valuable client even though my case was rather simple. I can recommend them without hesitation.

James and his team were excellent...kind, courteous and understanding. My charges were reduced and repercussions kept to a minimum. He truly made the best of a bad situation. Highly recommended!

I ran into trouble in a parking lot. Was attacked verbally, racially, and physically. I called police and basically ended up in jail because it was me versus multiple other people. Even the police sided with them so much so that they lied multiple times in reports, and in court. They went so far as to book me in jail on a different charge other than assault, simply so I could not bail myself out. As soon as I got out of jail and saw how horrible the public defender was, I got on Yelp and called Smith & White. Derek Smith answered fairly late in the evening, which was surprising to me. He was very compassionate to my situation. A few days later I met him in person and it cemented my feeling that he was the perfect attorney.nnBoth James White and Derek Smith were incredibly compassionate with me over the year long battle. James filled in for a few court dates when Derek was busy. Derek is running for Judge right now in Tacoma and he's VERY busy. James I think saw how difficult it was for me, and even when I wouldn't back down on something and insisted, he never lost his cool. Derek Smith was pretty much the same. There were moments when I was so upset at the things being said by Prosecution, and Derek took everything in stride. He never dropped his level of professionalism. Cases like this will try every last bit of human patience you have. When someone is lying to purposely get you in trouble, those lies cut deep. Derek remained 100% compassionate and truly knew deep down how terrible I was feeling. He always comforted me when he could see how stressed I was.nnMy case ended up going to trial. Prosecution was trying to nail me to the cross for what literally was a push in self defense. They did not care and they wanted jail time no matter what. So, we went to trial.nnDerek Smith. He shut them all down in court like no one else could. I literally had 5 people stacked against me. The alleged victim, her friend, another random person who saw bits and pieces, and TWO police officers. ALL of them testified against me. ALL of them lied, lied and lied some more, especially the police officers. I never thought a jury would believe me, over all the other people that testified against me. I literally thought I was basically just doomed. I never doubted Derek's ability, but when you have a mountain of people against you, it feels incredibly daunting when you have to sit there and listen to each one testify, before you do. Even after my trial, I still feel sick to my stomach over what has happened. Granted this review is only a day after the verdict, but still. The emotional effects hit me like a truck this past week even more so and I couldn't have imagined having another attorney besides Derek.nnDerek picked apart every single thing they did and laid it out for the jury like a Master Chef working over the most beautiful presentation in a 3 star michelin restaurant. He did it with precision, accuracy, and with class of the utmost caliber. If you ever have to go to trial and your trial actually gets heard. This is the one and only attorney you want on your side.nnDerek did not take anyone's nonsense on the stand. He challenged them as soon as he smelled inconsistency and he held them to what they were saying. You've seen those dramatic courtroom TV shows like Law & Order. Well watching Derek kind of gave me a surreal feeling at times, like being on the set of a show or something. It was amazing to watch this attorney work.nnDerek ultimately helped win my case for me, flat out. I would have never been able to present the facts the way he did had I took this on solo. Public defenders? Fire them and hire Smith & White instead. Don't let a public defender fight for you unless you absolutely have no financial resources.nnIf you are in Pierce county, please vote for Derek Smith as Judge. I couldn't imagine anyone as a better judge honestly. Derek is fair, compassionate, incredibly keen and intelligent, and I think he wouldn't let any nonsense get past him. Vote for this guy and if you are in trouble, HIRE him.

So unfortunately i got myself into some trouble over the Summer and needed some good legal counsel. Mr.White responded back to my text messages at 11 at night. He was very informative and was ready to make an apointment at my earliest convience. I went and met Mr.White and explained to him my situation. He explained my options. After meeting with him, i knew he was perfect for me. Mr. White is HANDS DOWN THE BEST LAWYER. He is swavy in the court and is very relaxed and comfortable. He made me feel compeltly as ease. He is so cool. I truly like him so much. He helped me so much get my life back. If i ever get in trouble again, i will go to Mr.White. dont go to Barbara. Shes out for your money. Mr.white actually cares and is passionate about what he does. I will defintely be keeping touch with him because we developed a good relationship. Im actually really going to miss him.
