I was arrested for holding a sign on a sidewalk in Mississippi. I was trying to bring attention to the High Kill Rates at the Humane Society in Gulfport. I ended up bringing unwanted attention to Lori West and making the point that First Amendment protections don’t exist in Mississippi. I was referred to William Most by another attorney. Mr Most is probably a very nice guy who has trouble disappointing people. His enthusiasm wasn’t what you’d call infectious and he doesn’t seem like he’s well organized . Maybe he should hire a budding Erin Brokovich He probably made mental calculations and knew this wasn’t a George Floyd payout. If you have a good civil rights case — lawyers will persue you- and not the other way around. The bottom line is that Constitutional protections in the Deep South are illusory. Suing and even winning isn’t going to change the minds of local residents who are raised in a bully culture. To their credit— small business owners near the shelter took the local Oligarch, Eric Aschaffenburg to court to stop the construction of a Shelter in the middle of Downtown Gulfport. The litigants were crushed by Aschaffenburg— because that’s the power that the local oligarchy has.
