Took forever to respond to referral. Once we received a call from them they sent information. Never heard back left messages and email for them to advise that the case had began. Month later received a letter that they were dropping us as client for lack of communication. This is a joke, they have no real intentions of 'helping' at all.
In January 2019, I moved from Los Angeles, CA to Lafayette, CO, engaged in an acrimonious guardianship battle with my brother over my ailing father, who my brother had unceremonious kidnapped from my care in sunny California, behind my back, and dumped into a 3rd rate nursing home in Broomfield CO to “save money.” He blocked me and maligned me to the nursing home admin., my father’s attorney and Guardian ad Litem. I was 100% alone and ill equipped to plead my case. I couldn’t afford an attorney, but I couldn’t not afford to have an attorney represent me. I contacted Ivonne Esparza, Metro Volunteer Lawyers’ Legal Services Coordinator and Guardian Angel, who ultimately matched me with attorney Stephen Cook of Smith & Cook, LLC, and his insanely organized paralegal, Shannon Cleary. From the instant we spoke, I knew Steve would assume control of the situation, stop the gaslighting and victoriously defend my position as my father’s guardian. With soothing equanimity, Steve took me in-hand and led me step by grueling step through this protracted process. His legal acumen, authenticity and compassion proved invaluable assets during an ordeal which in turn blew my mind and broke my heart. I cannot say enough about triumvirate of Steve Cook and Shannon Cleary of Smith & Cook, LLC and Ivonne Esparza of the Metro Volunteer Lawyers for their exemplary representation and humanity; a juxtaposition rarely found in the legal sector. My eternal gratitude.
Quite amusing, actually. Recording says "If I know the parties extension to please dial it now. I wait for the next prompt which, logically, would state that since I don't know what the extension is that I would be transferred to an extension that would help me to find the appropriate party. No logic. the recording tell me again that "If I know the extension of the party to dial it now". I don't know the extension, so I start dialing 3 digit extensions and on extension 333 I get voice mail. I leave a message. Now I will see if I get a call back. Very unprofessional for a legal assistance office.
Ivonne Esparza the coordinator has to be fired! MVL pays for Ivonne’ rudeness! Shame on you
1 star is too good for them. I called them for help and the person who answered the phone was very rude to me and hung up on me. He didn't give me his name, do not use this service.
