I don't enjoy giving bad reviews. However I feel I must in this situation in order to help others avoid poor service especially with such a sensitive situation. Mike Eagan has not done much for my family except the bare minimum and CREATE conflict amongst my family. I do not expect anything for free. From what I see, he is only being middle man between my family and the court. While not expecting free service, I do expect good and useful advice from my attorney. I have worked with 2 other attorneys in my past, and they were both excellent in regards to taking care of business and communicating. All concerns were addressed and handled. True professionals. So I do have good "measuring stick" so to speak to measure and assess good service in this channel. Eagan, in my opinion provides poor service and possibly contributes to create family conflict. Here are the issues that I faced with Eagan: Poor communication skills- Respectfully, Eagan speaks rapidly and mumbles when speaking on the phone. In addition, he always appears to be in a hurry. I do not accept the potential excuse that he is trying to save a client money by rushing along. The following problem is a big one...as.a beneficiary, when you bring him a concern, he basically treats you as if your concern doesn't matter. He sloughs you off with what he would deem "advice". It is as if he thinks that you'll accept whatever he says because he is an attorney. Many times, his advice would be so basic, senseless and incomplete. Any logical thinker would walk away feeling as if they only received half of the info they were seeking. In a face to face meeting, he once stated something offensive, and I paraphrase: "When you sell that asset, then the lawyer gets paid". We just lost a loved one to death. I feel that was very unprofessional and it made him appear to only care about the money when he made that paraphrased statement. Also, Eagan once stated to us, " I don't bill you all for some of the phone calls." He never clearly defined which calls were or weren't billed. Again, unprofessional and concerning. How are we to decipher what we are being billed for? The following issue may be the biggest problem that I have with Eagan. If a conflict arises between family, such as Executor vs. Beneficiary, he only represents and protects the executor. As a beneficiary, I spoke with Eagan on the phone about some legitimate concerns that I had regarding the executors handling of my deceased loved one's estate. During these phone conversations, he NEVER divulged to me, the beneficiary, that should there be a court case arise from the conflict that he would represent the executor and I, the beneficiary, would be his opponent. I feel that he let me express my concerns, and he made me feel as if he wanted to help resolve with useless advice. Now, knowing how he operates, he was possibly gathering info to use against me, a beneficiary, in the event that we faced off in court. I believe this is a very unethical action on his part. Eagan never made an effort to clearly define his relationship with the executors and beneficiaries. Once, during a phone conversation I asked Eagan the pointed question: "Do you represent only the executor or do you represent the entire family including the beneficiaries?" He sloppily danced around the question and never answered it. I paid close attention to his words as he avoided answering the question. I already knew the answer that I found through research. I wanted to see if he would be honest. And he didn't even answer the question. Finally, based on my experience, it is my opinion that Mike Eagan is unethical, apathetic and only desires to do the bare minimum. I also think that upon the initial meeting with the family that has just lost a loved one, he should define his role more clearly. Not everyone realizes that a probate lawyer ONLY represents the executor in the event of a family conflict. Here's my advice: Beware of Mike Eagan. Especially if you're a beneficiary. I hope this review helps others...
