Rains & Rains

I am forever grateful the Rains & Rains name stood out as I frantically searched online one Friday in early 2016 - my appearance before the judge, scheduled for that following Monday morning.  I was facing the potential loss of legal custody & parenting time based on false allegations by my son's father, with the involvement of my biological mother, including her financial backing. I was in shock after receiving notice in the mail from their prestigious attorney's office in Ann Arbor that Thursday afternoon, giving me precisely one business day to locate and retain an attorney. My mother had recently moved into a home I had been residing in previously and was receiving my court mail at my old address - due to a newly hired FOC employee failing to change my address formally in the system the year before, when I submitted the change in writing (he was new on the job, it was just an accident on his part.)  My mother did not "return mail to sender" or to the court, impeding my right to reasonable notice of the upcoming court date... this would only be the beginning of the ruthless, unfair, and nightmarish tactics that would permeate the next several years. I do not believe it was by accident that I called the Rains and Rains office. Call it divine intervention, luck, or what you will, but I would not have survived the years of court proceedings had it not been for Rains & Rains. After practically begging the receptionist during my first contact with the office in early 2016, she agreed to fit me into their already-packed schedule. I still remember the pit in my stomach as I drove to the courthouse for that first Monday appearance, underprepared and having yet to speak with Matt, directly.  After meeting with Matt briefly, minutes before appearing in front of the judge - I knew then that I was in good hands, albeit momentarily (as we could not have anticipated what would ensue for the next several years). "Thank you" will never encompass my complete gratitude to Rains & Rains for representing me throughout the lengthy and grueling case that I was forced into, including their representation at the Michigan Court of Appeals in 2023.  I mean this sincerely; there is no better attorney out there.  Both Matt & his excellent assistant, Jessica, provide the best legal advice one could hope for. Thank you, Rains & Rains, for your heart and empathy surrounding my son's circumstances and for helping me fight for justice and truth to prevail.  I know this is your "job," but the profound outcome has forever positively shaped my son's life.  I will not forget your unwavering belief in my position and the gracious treatment you bestowed upon me during one of the most challenging seasons of my life. I hope this appreciation spurs you on in cases like mine and on days you may question the sacrifice and time away from your family as you work to help others in need.  I expect at least one of your sons to carry on the torch of the Rains name in court. I highly recommend Rains & Rains for any legal counsel you may need in the future.  They are not only well-versed and competent in matters of Family Law but also Personal Injury and other areas.  One of the most important aspects of having solid representation is when you reach the pivotal moments in front of a judge, specifically during hearings and at trial; they are unmatched in this arena. My case is finally closed; I was awarded full legal custody and increased parenting time, later upheld at the Michigan Court of Appeals. I would caution against giving weight to negative reviews, some very well may be from losing sides of cases that have ended. I have since moved to a different city and no longer retain Rains & Rains due to distance. After many years of being dragged through the courts, I learned a great deal - there are many attorneys out there, but not many who are excellent at or passionate about their job.
