Ms. Fischer is extremely professional, caring, and has a complete knowledge of Louisiana Law, particularly in child custody cases. She tells it like it is, and you know where you stand legally. I have complete trust and faith in her abilities. And she is fair in all aspects. She also has a very competent and caring staff.
Not the place I would recommend if it is your first time seeking legal advice. I mentioned that it was my first time and I was looking for guidance and clarity. I paid 200 for 30 mins and was one the road 6 mins short of my visit being over. I feel like if you have a serious case and need an aggressive lawyer, she will be the one for you. For myself personally, I feel like she wasn’t really personable and didn’t try to understand my situation enough or ask the right questions. She kind of went straight into game planning. Like i said great for if you know what you’re looking for and want an aggressive lawyer but not if it is your first time seeking legal advice and wanting to know all of your options.
Save your time and money and go with a different attorney. Several mistakes in legal documents, lack of counseling, unnecessary costly subpoenas and delays from her office in getting documents submitted on time, just to name a few reasons why. I felt like I never received proper guidance or advising from Betsy. Whenever I had a question or concern, I would leave a message and it would take days or even up to a week to get a response back from a paralegal. The most useful information I ever got in that office was from Belinda, a legal assistant. After consulting with two different attorneys from different family law offices, they both were aware of similar complaints from past clients of hers. If this is your first time dealing with family law and you are not knowledgeable on what to expect, she will take advantage of you and drain your pockets dry.
First thing that needed to be filed with the court was done so at the last minute + the wrong draft was filed. They had to retract it and file for an extension instead. Mrs. Betsy blamed it on Mrs. Wanda in the office. Second thing that needed to be filed was not done till the last minute. If it had not been filed, I would need to appear in court the next morning at 8am. Had me not knowing till 6pm. After that, I had to go in a different direction and hire a new lawyer that I didn't have any issues with. Bills had mistakes and I was overcharged $1245 that was reimbursed. You have to schedule a phone call with Mrs. Betsy. Sometimes waiting a week to do so.
After initial contact, Betsy Fischer began work on my child support case on February 26th, while I was unemployed. I was upfront about my financial limitations and placed a $4,000 retainer. Concerned about the overall cost, I was initially assured the retainer would likely be sufficient. However, by April 12th, after only one court appearance, nearly $3,000 had been depleted. Despite my verbal request to stop further billing due to financial hardship, invoices continued to be generated. Though I explicitly stated my desire to end services verbally, the firm continued billing me due to the absence of a written cancellation. Cancellation was eventually finalized, and the case was ultimately resolved through arbitration initiated by opposing counsel. Ultimately, Betsy Fischer sued me for the outstanding balance, which exceeded the initial retainer by over $4,000. Despite paying the judgment in full, the lien on my property remains in place. Transparency about costs upfront, such as a fixed-fee agreement, could have prevented this unnecessary stress and financial burden, including a lawsuit and a lingering lien.
