We live in the neighborhood the east of the school. Everyone there ships their kids to the Madison district. We put two kids through that district and did the same for our youngest during kindergarten. Needless to say we were very disappointed this time around, so decided to try REM for 1st grade. Ill be honest I was a little apprehensive about bringing my child here. The scores weren't good and the past reviews left doubt in our mind. WOW REM met my expectations and more. The teachers are great and are interested and engaged with their students. The administration has their back and cares a great deal for the school. This is shown when you see the Principal Mrs Bonnette interact with the kids. I've heard her on many occasions address the kids by their first name! The administration takes time to know their kids and to let them know they are their for them and their best interest. My child is now in 2nd grade and I have no reason to think about moving her. She loves her teacher Ms. Applegate and actually likes going to school. The test scores will improve as this is a fairly new administration. This doesn't come without challenges as a lot of the students come from lower income or non English speaking families. Each one of those kids is helped on the daily and with time as the excellent teachers continue to instill book knowledge and compassion in their students there's no reason REM cannot be a A+ school.
My baby girl. Hailey has been here from first grade. Now in 5th, I love everything about this school. Im sad its her last year . I'm very grateful to all her teachers, that teach from their hearts.. and her outstanding principle. I love you all. Thank you
The teachers call the parents for the dumbest things and with no consideration of interrupting employment. Just a little common sense would be nice. The other example of "No common sense" is the way they had the parent / student meet and greet day scheduled today with no back up plan ie: power lines blowing down, killer lightning all around, severe storms and warnings to seek shelter immediately, yet these ding a lings didn't have an alternate plan to send everyone on their way to return tomorrow. No contingency plan at all. They just kept it going for this day, having everyone stand around in line and wait, while the storm closed in, placing lives in danger. That was extremely foolish in my opinion. What do I know though? I'm just a long haired guy who has lived here all my life and seen the weather kill people standing around in lines. I suppose the teachers and faculty didn't worry because they're inside and not worried about everyone who is faced with travelling in the weather.
Great school with a lot of motivated students and inspired teachers. If your considering Richard E Miller for your student I would encourage you to make the move! -Del
