We retained the services of Sommers & Swartz to assist us with a Medical Malpractice lawsuit. We were assigned Matt Turner & Dina Zalewski. In 2019 my husband underwent thoracic surgery to remove a large abscess from his chest. Infection had already spread into his bloodstream and he was in critical condition. After 40 days in the hospital, he was sent home to recover with a wound vac, visiting nurse, and a long, powerful round of intravenous antibiotics. Our hopes of a smooth recovery were dashed when his chest once again festered and swelled with infection. It was soon discovered that a retained wound vac sponge was left inside of his chest causing further infection to his clavicle and rib bone. This negligence resulted in subsequent surgeries in which large pieces of bone were sawed into and removed. My husband was left with chronic pain, the inability to fully use his shoulder/arm, and after a long career as a residential home builder and contractor, was forced to go on disability. After our first meeting with Attorney Matt Curtis, our feelings of frustration, defeat, and helplessness were diminished. Matt’s knowledge of the law concerning medical malpractice and his compassion for my husbands situation gave us the boost we needed to stand up and be heard! I am so grateful that my husband felt validated and energized throughout his time meeting with Mr. Curtis because in February of 2021, he sadly and unexpectedly passed away. At that time, I thought all was lost but Mr. Curtis assured me that we could still move forward. In fact, just recently he was able to negotiate a satisfying settlement with the hospital bringing some sense of closure and Justice to a very difficult time for my family.
