The plus side is that he ended up refunding my payment, so in the end I'm not out anything but some time and stress. There were several things that contributed to this, largely communication-related. He had promised to get me paperwork about the case, and request the officer's notes, and I also seem to recall that he had said he was going to file an appearance. As far as I can tell, none of this ever happened. The only times he had contacted me about this were in response to my calling to ask about the status. This was prompted by him initially saying that I should expect to receive some papers and I'd need to sign and return them, but I never received anything. Finally, it was a bit over a week before the initial court date, and I still hadn't heard anything, so I called again. The phone system at the Executive Center where he has his office was broken, and was ringing busy instead of going to his voicemail. After trying calling every day for 4 days, I finally called the executive center number and was told that he was away for 2 weeks, but they didn't know when he'd return. I checked with the court at this point, at the recommendation of another attorney, and Andrew Taylor had not filed an appearance, which I am fairly sure he said was one of the things he would do. I also realized that I had been mistaken on the date. it was a day earlier than I had thought. It was now 4 days before the court date, and I didn't have so much as an engagement letter from Andrew Taylor, despite having paid his fee at our first meeting. He did end up calling back shortly after the court date, saying he had it on his calendar for the following day and he was expecting to just show up. So, it may have worked out just fine had I left things. However, there was definitely communication problems, I was expecting significantly different than what I understood he had promised to deliver -- in the terms of filing an appearance, requesting officer notes, and getting paperwork to me. The real killer was that I just had no idea when he would return from travel, apparently because his phone system was broken. Had it worked out, he would have been significantly less expensive than the attorney I ended up with. So, with better communication about his upcoming trip, and either adjusting his promises or following through with what he promised, it would have worked out much better. In the end though, he *DID* refund the payment I made. Sean

This guy is the definition of shady lawyer, run away from this guy, you’re better off with a public defender. Horrible communication, not to mention he flat out didn’t show up to my court appearance. The judge was basically lecturing me because I didn’t know where he was. How the heck am I supposed to know where my lawyer is? Made me look like a total idiot. I had to take work off to go to court which ended up being rescheduled due to his absence. Couldn’t reach him on the phone until he calls me back a couple hours after apologizing saying he had the wrong time. The following week at the rescheduled court date, he shows up, finally, and basically goes rogue, and tells the judge all this stuff about agreeing to a lesser charge and blah blah blah, meanwhile I’m standing right next to him completely dumbfounded because it wasn’t anything that we talked about. He started arguing with me on the stand and the judge had to actually ask us to step out to make sure we’re on the same page. This guy is a joke, don’t give him a cent of your hard earned money.
