Do NOT use this firm. Ms. Messman is a liar, arrogant, and she will cheat you out of your money. She told me she would give me a $50 discount on her hourly rate, but it turned out that the discounted rate was her actual rate. While discussing strategy for my divorce case, she suggested that we lie to opposing counsel regarding our intentions with the case. I had to tell her I would not be dishonest in any part of the case. My initial escrow deposit was running low as we neared the final filing. I paid what she suggested to get us to the end of the case even though I didn't think she would need that much. Turns out I was right. Two days before filing documents with the court that had previously been reviewed, signed, and notarized, my escrow account was charged 4.5 hours! The extra hours for unnecessary work reduced my escrow to less than $200 for my refund. When I requested that she audit her hours for that day hoping she would find she charged the wrong account, I received no response. Throughout my case, I had to point out on numerous errors on my documents. I'm pretty sure that the back and forth between me and the paralegal and then the paralegal and Ms. Messman and then back to me cost me extra billable hours as well.

While this firm stays busy, it is for good reason. They have good reputation. The lawyers here are sharp and have attention to detail.

Wow, she is incredible. Staff has been impressive too. Nothing like the other lawyers I've experienced. She went past and beyond my expectations, more than once now. Very exciting and great to watch in the courtroom, proving my innocence. I felt like jumping up and yelling "Yeah." She cared deeply about me and my Loved ones. Like a mom fighting for her son. Ms. Messman is one of the best attorneys in Hampton Roads and I recommend you read this review if you are looking for an Attorney. Ms. Messman is one of the most talented and HONEST attorneys I have ever met and is 100% dedicated to her craft. She truly is one of the GOOD ones and her practice goes against the typical sleazy lawyer stereotype. For that reason, I felt compelled to give an honest review of Ms. Messman after reading some of the ignorant comments left on Google by former clients. The practice of law is complicated and no result is ever guaranteed. The system is imperfect and run by imperfect people. Further, each case is unique, and in reading the reviews it is very easy to tell who had a favorable outcome and who did not. You have to have realistic expectations about the outcome (and Ms. Messman tells it like it is, whether you like it or not) and you have to pay for her services. Just as your electricity would be shut off if you do not pay your bill, if you refuse to pay your attorney as you agreed, your attorney will not work on your case and will eventually withdraw. Further, you also have to be truthful and communicate with your attorney if you expect them to represent you before the Court! All in all, if you are looking for an HONEST and EXCELLENT courtroom attorney, you cannot go wrong with Ms. Messman. Further, I can say from personal knowledge that Ms. Messman is the Attorney that local Attorneys and Law Enforcement send their family and friends to, and I would recommend my family and friends to her without hesitation.
