Velvet came to me highly recommended by friends, strangers in legal Facebook groups and lawyers. She has worked in the field of mediation for many years, and it shows. She has the ability to defuse charged situations and offer pertinent guidance for a peaceful resolution. Her knowledge about all the ins and outs was a tremendous help, and she is very enjoyable and easy to work with.
I am an attorney and we were scheduled to do a mediation with this office because I have heard good things and they can handle complex matters involving lots of assets in divorce. Unfortunately we were unable to mediate due to my client and so we requested to change the date and were told it would be a 2 hour cost to my client, I was expecting that, its in the agreement. Unfortunately my client did not have enough funds in my trust account to cover it. When they called for the payment I informed them of the situation and the assistant became very rude, demanding that I just pay it. I explained that I am ethically prohibited in fronting costs for clients, it is in the rules of the Bar. I said I would call my client and have him bring the money in as soon as Tuesday, Monday was a holiday. She seemed put out. On Monday opposing counsel called me and claimed I had told the mediator I was not going to pay it. I told her that was absolutely not the truth and recounted the conversation I had. I was annoyed to say the least, it was a lie, and calling me on a holiday to collect on a lie made me mad. Then I came in this morning to an email stating that Velvet's assistant called your office Roy and was told that you absolutely would not be paying the cancelation fee. I responded this morning: Her assistant is lying. I told her he did not have that amount of money in his account with me and that I would need to talk to him and to call me back on Tuesday, unfortunately I have not heard back from him as of yet and since the Bar frowns on our fronting money for clients I am stuck at the moment, I will endeavor to get hold of him to pay the fee, just like I told her assistant Friday. Her response: Just to be clear, we talked on Friday and we said that you are going to get hold of him during this days. As you indicated, I am going to call you office today to take a Credit Card to pay the cancellation fee. I did explained to you on Friday the policy that we handle. The is no need to lie or say something that we did not agree about. I will be calling around 10 am to take the payment of $600.00. Thank you very much, and anything that you need, please let me know. Snarky and still lying, claiming I said something I clearly did not. I dont know how they are at mediation, but this staff member sucks!
Velvet was wonderful to work with during this emotional process. She was very professional throughout, and I highly recommend her.
It's hard to find words to say about my experience with Velvet. From the second she came into the zoom call, I felt her fairness and eagerness to reach a settlement. She is very creative and works very hard to resolve issues. Velvet is kind and easy to open up to. Finally, I have never seen someone read people so easily. I am forever grateful for this woman and her ability to help my ex and I reach a fair stipulation.
As an attorney, I really appreciate being able to work with Velvet. She is brilliant, compassionate, and hard-working. She helps both parties get good deals, and finds solutions that work for everyone instead of having to go to trial and have the judge make decisions that don't work for anyone. Velvet is a rockstar!
