Complaint: Mr.Zipko was extremely ineffective at communicating. There were whole stretches of weeks where I couldn't reach him through either phone or email and his voicemail was full. When we first met he stirred up a lot of fear in me about potentially going to jail if I didn't hire him, which is what led me to make that very expensive decision. When I got upset about it, he backpedaled and told me what I wanted to hear so I would calm down. We had a set time to meet on one occasion that he failed to show up for because he forgot about it and then made an excuse that was a clear lie. When I expressed concerns of any kind to him, he wouldn't respond. He talked in circles and appeared to be on something every single time I saw him. He didn't explain anything that was going on throughout the process unless I asked specific questions. At my court date in October he told me what the prosecutor was offering without explaining it and when I would ask more in-depth questions it appeared to bother him. When I called him to follow up on those questions throughout the next couple of weeks it was nearly impossible to get ahold of him. It became clear that I was just more money in his pocket regardless of what happened in my case. The day before my last court date he told me that he was "certain" we would be moving it to another day because he was going to be pulled into trial. At 11pm that night he texted me to tell me I still needed to appear the following morning, after I had agreed to go into work because he had confirmed that morning that we would be rescheduling the court appearance. When we appeared before the judge I didn't know what was going on because he still hadn't really explained it to me; he went more in-depth once we were actually in front of the judge but that only added to my confusion. I've only appeared in court one other time for and have very little idea of how it all works, a fact that he was aware of. I had to ask specific questions as to what my sentence would be because once again he was extremely unclear and talking in circles. I asked him if my license would be taken away and he said "yeah, for two weeks or something like that." I got a letter this past weekend saying that it will be revoked for a year unless I get the ignition interlock system. Mr.Zipko is almost twice as expensive as many DWI lawyers in this state and I hired him in good faith but was let down at every turn. Missing meetings and failing to stay in contact is bad enough, but the fact that he didn't mention the year revocation or ignition interlock is truly unbelievable. He told me what I wanted to hear instead of the truth, like a used care salesman. I was kept in the dark throughout the whole process despite my best efforts to understand it and I feel more taken advantage of than protected by his services.
