One of the worst customer service experiences ever. My funeral home was listed as the beneficiary for a client's life policy with Athene. She passed away and we needed to confirm the policy was in effect and the amount of funds available for her funeral. We were told we needed to submit a Life Insurance Claim Form Statement of Beneficiary via fax and within 24 - 48 hours they would be able to share information about the policy with us. Today I made a follow up call and the male customer service rep was very argumentative and said they can't tell anyone anything until the claim is verified and processed with will take approx. 15 BUSINESS DAYS (three weeks). So Athene expects the family to wait 3 weeks to plan the funeral? The family took out this life insurance to make sure that the funds would be available for funeral expenses and then the insurer throws up roadblocks at the time of death so nothing can be verified in a timely manner. I would not recommend this company to anyone. Another family that we're working with at this same time had a Colonial Penn policy. We called, were given verification that the policy was in effect and the face amount along with easy to follow instructions on how to file the claim. So ridiculous that Athene feels the need to have policies that are not customer friendly and then employ argumentative service representatives to be rude to callers.

No advice or help from my agent, Ed Z. even after repeated request over the years. Talks a good game but does not deliver. Difficult to work with, difficult to understand products and their procedures are tediously detailed in timing when trying to access money! Extra riders I didn’t need charging me $500 a month and very low average yields. It’s been about 6 years now and I’m thinking of just paying the penalty to get away from them. Maybe that was the goal! If so, good job!!

THE WORST COMPANY - DO NOT INVEST WITH THEM THEY HAVE NO APP TO BE ABLE TO MONITOR INVESTMENTS OR GET BALANCES TRYING TO TRANSFER FUNDS OUT OF ATHENE FOR 3 MONTHS GOING ON 5th ATTEMPT. CONSTANT EXCUSES AND DELAYS LIKE THEY HAVENT RECEIVED DOCUMENTS / DOCUMENTS NOT LEGIGIBLE AND EVEN AFTER FAXING DOCUMENT TO TRANSFER WAS NOT UPLOADED TO THE SYSTEM A WEEK LATER AND ASKED TO REFAX AGAIN. Tried to -escalate to managment level poor responses. Short of contacting attorney generals office I though it was a good idea to post - avoid the headaches and invest your hard earned money with a company that is solid

I am an ATT retiree and for 10+ years my pension was direct deposited on time, with no incidents. My Sept. 2023 pension was not received & in checking, I found Athene would be handling the pensions. I contacted Athene & a female rep walked me through the Athene system and assured me the Oct. pension would be deposited correctly. My pension was not deposited as agreed in Oct. 2023. Each rep I spoke with at Athene gave me conflicting information regarding it. I finally asked for a supervisor. She said a paper check was mailed & I needed to wait 7 days; if not received, it would be replaced. I contacted the supervisor on the 7th day & said the check should be either direct deposited or overnighted with a tracking number. She said their bank only mailed Usps but she would ask for permission with Athene Corporate. By his time, 2 weeks have passed with no pension. I finally asked for a manager & spoke with Juan Brea who asked me to give him 1 day to push corporate. The next day, Juan said the check was overnited & I would receive it next Monday, which I did. I filed a BBB report on Athene, sent an email to their bank Northern Trust & contacted NBC News to report this story. What would YOU do it your paycheck was not received in 10+ days???!! Bev Carter
