David, Shelby, and the rest of the team did a fantastic job guiding me and my ex wife through a very contentious collaborative divorce. I know that sounds like a contradiction in terms but my ex wife was EXCEPTIONALLY difficult to deal with during the entire process and this firm still successfully guided us through the entire thing beginning to end. I could not be more pleased with the results of the case. They did a fantastic job of answering all questions and addressing all of our concerns despite the very difficult circumstances. For family law I would easily recommend them to anyone.
This law firm is the worst. We hired them and thought David Zerbe was going to represent us, but after we paid our retainer he said he couldn't represent us because he was good friends to opposing counsel, which he knew well beforehand. He should have told us the day we went in for our consultation. We then were handed off to another lawyer who we thought was a practicing attorney, but we found out on the day of our hearing that she couldn't argue our case because she was a law clerk and wasn't a member of the bar. Then we were given another attorney right before our hearing and he didn't know what was going on. He did a terrible job for us and perhaps if he had been there from the start he wouldn't have done such a horrible job. We had no idea who he was. I would not recommend this law firm. We paid for a lot of things we didn't get, such as records from the bank and an investment firm. We paid them over $5,000 and did not get what we paid for. They're not honest and forthcoming about things that go on in their office and they are very misleading, making you think they have everything under control when they don't. To this day my mother's estate is not settled, no thanks to them. We finally had to let them go because they were not doing their job and we were not satisfied. If you're smart, you will not hire this firm.
Being that the estate was in Dearborn County and I live in Clark County made it difficult for me to take my time locating a good probate Attorney. The biggest mistake I made was ignoring all the bad reviews. Jenna Brooks Rohrig asked me to cc.. her on any emails from anyone (never mentioned I would be billed for all emails). She sent me an outragous laughable invoice. They are inept vultures, none communicative theives. There is more to this but, I won't go into more details. I wish I would have listened to all the bad reviews and red flags sooner.
My husband I have been working with David Zerbe for the past 4 years around custody issues with my husband's son. David navigated this difficult case giving us insight on all the players involved including guardian ad litem's, mediators, and opposing attorneys. He never steered us wrong and ultimately, we won the unwinnable case. The odds were stacked against us in every way but we ended with my husband going from joint legal custody and limited visitation with his son to Sole Legal Custody and Primary Physical custody. We never imagined results this good and it would have never happened with out David. We highly recommend working with David for your legal needs.
Where to begin? I originally reached out to Mr. Zerbe on March 5th to handle a case for my husband. He sat down and met with me and he even went to a bond hearing without actually being retained. Butter wouldn't melt in his mouth and he was very much available until we paid him $5500.00 on March 11th. Then, all of a sudden, he's too busy to respond to any phone calls or text messages. He even told my mother in law to stop texting him, the second time she text him when he didn't respond the first time she text him. The only correspondence I received after that date, was from his secretary. He was quick to have her send me his financial agreement, that I did not and would not sign until I spoke to him about it. That never happened, he never called me back after I reached out to him about the agreement. When I finally got fed up with his lack of communication I called and left a message asking if he was even planning on representing my husband. That's when his ego took over and he abruptly withdrew from my husbands case, via text message, sent to my husband, who is sitting in jail. The audacity of this man. He withdrew from the case on April 20th for "lack of payment." He withdrew on April 20th and my husband had a hearing on April 24th. He stated he had gone through the $5500 we had paid him in less than two months and I was going to let it go, but then I receive a bill for $4070.00. So not only did he trump up the bill to take the $5500, he also wants $4000 more. He told us he wasn't actually able to do anything on the case until some payment was made, however, he certainly included $300/hour for everything up to the $5500 payment, includingthe consultation. He did nothing on this case except file initial motions for discovery. For some reason, he didn't feel it was necessary to speak to me but who do you think he sent the bill to? ME!! I don't want anyone else to go through what I'm going through now, which is why I'm posting this. I now have to file a grievance and a fee dispute with the Indiana Bar Association. What's done in the dark will surely come to the light. Amen
