Would not recommend. They get in touch when it's convenient for you and don't make things clear. I trusted them with a very sensitive and important case and I would never work with them again. They charged me money and I was confused as to why, because I had paid the retainer and only talked with my attorney twice. They let me know I would be getting a new attorney because mine was leaving the firm. Never got a call, never responded to my billing questions but set up a hearing without me knowing and dismissed my case. TOTAL waste of money. Absolutely would think twice before using them.
Their billing system seemed "sketchy". I was overcharged and cannot seem to get any credit/refund. I have asked for a copy of my file several times. My lawyer is not returning any of my calls yet I still receive an invoice for communications within the law firm. I was told by another attorney from a different law firm to file a grievance with the State Bar if Texas. I should have checked BBB.org first before engaging with this law firm. I never received any of my retainer money back.
I have commercially engaged dozens of law firms over many years of work as a commercial lender restructuring and turnaround manager. I have a relatively small matter that mandates arbitration rather than litigation against the incompetent national builder of my new home. A scheduling person arranged for a call with Mr. Hernandez at 2:10pm one afternoon - with the understanding that he could call a few minutes either side of that time. By 2:30, no call. I moved on with other things I needed to do. I received a voicemail about 3:45 - sans apology for the late call but with ample sales pitches. Within a few days - with no understanding of my case - the firm sent an engagement letter requiring posting of a retainer - along with an open-ended statement that it is impossible to estimate costs so, (it was implied) be prepared to pay our bills as they become due. In fact, it should be very simple to quote ( not estimate) the costs of formally teeing up a formal arbitration and of various possible subsequent actions ( which might include preparation of arbitration materials but most likely would not include filing suit, going to trial and representation during any appeals - all very unlikely in a simple fairly-small-dollar residential real estate compulsory-arbitration matter - but which were outlined in the engagement letter. The firm’s ratings appear good. His apparent frequent blind rush to get an engagement letter signed and retainer posted may serve the firm well. However, it is not a style I am accustomed to nor one which I care to pursue. The public company home builder knows full-well that the Texas legislature is far more supportive of it than any septuagenarian who suffers from from serious medical issues and is unlikely to be alive for many more elections.
Terrible company I reached out to this firm to help me in a situation where I had believed I had been taken advantage of and was searching for legal help. After being set up with an attorney for about 3 weeks in feb-march of 2021 I was told I’d be getting a new attorney (for reasons unknown). The new attorney appeared to get the ball rolling. A few months went by and I was really left out if the loop of what was going on after repeatedly asking to stay updated on my case! Fast forward to August my lawyer emails me after 3 week of not hearing from him to tell me his sick. Two weeks after that I get a call from the firm telling me that my lawyer did not work for them any longer & I’d be getting a new lawyer yet again. I was told that he would start the case over and I would not be charged for a certain amount of time due to everything I had been through with this company up to this point. I email the new guy & never heard back from him only to be assigned a new attorney that I’m sure I will not hear from. I called to the office multiple times to talk to someone about what was really going on & never got a call back or email. I got absolutely nothing but hundreds of dollars down the drain for a case I truly needed help with. Please do not use this law firm they’re scammers!
The entire staff at Alex R. Hernandez Jr. PLLC was wonderful, from the helpful receptionist, to the attorney who came to my home to do the Intake, to the attorney who finalized the settlement, and everyone in-between. I was concerned that I would perhaps not get great representation and a good settlement because my case was relatively small. I couldn't have been more incorrect: the attorneys worked as diligently for me as they would have worked for a more lucrative case. I couldn't be more pleased and highly recommend this firm.
