My experience with Horne and Horne was extremely frustrating overall, but I’m giving them 2 stars because they were pleasant at the closing. After moving from Seattle to Greenville, NC, my wife and I trusted them to handle the legal side of buying our first home, but their delays caused significant issues. They dragged their feet for weeks, failing to send critical documents to our lender on time, which pushed our closing date back by four days. This forced us to pay for extra hotel days and added unnecessary stress to an already difficult move. I even had to leave work early on my second day at a new job to deal with their delays. While the closing process itself went smoothly, the lack of urgency and communication leading up to it made the experience far more difficult than it needed to be.
As others have said, be wary of doing business with this law firm if you're selling your home. They insisted that we come to the office and sit down to sign documents that easily could've been electronically signed, which was fine.. but then they told us AFTER signing that they will no longer electronically wire funds due to "wire fraud".. um, sure. They gave us the option of having the check mailed to us, which would arrive 4-5 days after closing, or paying $30 to have it overnighted. Since $30 is outrageous for an envelope, we requested it be mailed to our new address and verified that they had it correctly listed. After two weeks passed and we did not receive the check, we reached out to the firm. When we finally connected with the office, the woman we spoke with was rude and said that if we needed the money so bad, we should've spent the $30 to overnight it. WOW. Eventually she said she would speak with the attorney. When she called us back later that day, she said the check had been returned to their office because she'd put the wrong zip code. She said they would overnight it, and we FINALLY got it... for a completely different amount then stated on our paperwork. When we called back, we were told the amount was different because of yet another error they made on their end. To make a long story short, legal fees are not cheap and you shouldn't waste your time with one that is a) not going to treat you with respect and b) not capable of being thorough and complete with sensitive financial documents. I understand that we are all human and make mistakes, but being proactive and kind can go a long way.
Outstanding Experience! I recently had the pleasure of working with this Stephen Horne and his paralegal, Fay Dixon on a particularly difficult real estate transaction. Despite the numerous challenges and complex issues, their professionalism, attention to detail, and proactive communication were unparalleled. They navigated every hurdle with expertise and ensured a smooth closing. I am deeply impressed by their dedication and would highly recommend their services to anyone needing a skilled and reliable real estate attorney.
Excellent attorney. Tyler got my case dismissed immediately!
I sold a house in Greenville and used Horne and Horne for the legal closing paperwork. I wasn't able to be there for signing because of my schedule. They made the process almost too easy and at a fair cost. I'm very thankful for their efficient, effective, and easy process. I have never actually me them, but can only say wonderful things.
