Black Men Beware!!! On November 10 2023 myself and my soon to be ex-wife entered the law firm for a mediation hearing. The mediator was Patrick Rogers. He was suggested by my lawyer at the time due to him being "The most popular mediator in Dallas" ..."He closes cases fast" was also thrown in. I'm not knocking his knowledge in Family Law but I was under the impression that mediators were non-biased and worked toward a solution that both parties could live with. Well, my ordeal lasted 7 hours without an agreement but in my opinion, Mr Rogers worked exclusively toward getting the best outcome possible for the soon to be ex. During one of the 'Exchanges" Mr Rogers had the audacity to tell me that I "Abandoned my kids," leaving my wife with the duty of "Taking our kids to their medical appointments"....Pretty freakin' ridiculous in my opinion. I am a working BLACK FATHER who spent 26 years at DWU and upon retiring, immediately started another career at TxDOT (Retired from DWU on 8/13/22 and started at TxDOT on 8/15/22). For him to make those comments w/o knowing details of our relationship goes over the line. In the 16 years that the home was purchased, the wife NEVER made a mortgage payment, utility bill payment, made repairs, upkeep on the house, bought furniture, appliances..etc and in addition, she's had 4 different vehicles purchased and paid on including car insurance BY ME. The second offensive thing said by Mr Rogers was regarding the 3rd offer. It included with me paying off the remainder of the house loan. My suggestion was to sell the home and she could keep the TOTAL PROCEEDS from the sale which could fetch anywhere from 130k-180k for not touching my retirement. I didn't like her offer but Mr Rogers said the following..."You're around 50, right?" I told him no, I'm 60...He then said, "Well, people are living longer these days so you can probably expect to live until 78, so the 13 years remaining on the refi term you have will leave you with some years left". Upon hearing that, I was shocked. I then stood up and said "I'll take my chances in court", ending the 7 hour charade. Also, as I was leaving, He, Rogers, felt the need to tell me that due to high emotions, it probably would be best that I don't make any "threatening actions" towards my wife. Feeding into the "Angry Black Man" myth that THEY like to perpetrate. I told him that I would be spending the weekend with my mom as I have done since my dad passed away on Labor Day of 2023 and since the mediation was held on a Friday, I'll be heading directly over to my parent's home. BLACK MEN BEWARE!!!!
