I've never needed the advice of an attorney, but when I recently needed advice on an unfortunate landlord-tenant dispute, I'm so glad that Mike Kraemer was there to offer it. I called his office on a Sunday afternoon before Labor Day, and he called me back immediately. He listened to my situation and gave me a straight-forward consultation. His kind demeanor made me feel at ease about an intense situation. If I ever need to retain the services of an attorney, I'm going back to KM&A.
I initially contacted KM&A for a free consultation. They had excellent reviews so I felt it was a good choice to contact them. The EEOC was taking my former employer’s word over mine. I wanted to see if there was anything else I could do as I knew I couldn’t afford to hire a lawyer to take on a case - perhaps only pay for a slightly longer consultation. When they contacted me they only wanted a brief summary. Based on those few sentences they said they wanted to represent me on contingency. I was surprised. At that point I’d been dealing with the EEOC for 16 months and was thinking I had no where else to go and it would be done. It was a good feeling to have someone believe in me. I paid a $25 non refundable retainer and filled out all of the paperwork with a lot of detail. They always told me I had a very strong case. However, a year after they took my case they abruptly dropped me as a client after I hadn’t heard from them for several months. The attorney left me a long voicemail explaining this which I found odd. I feel like it’s more professional to actually speak to me. They also sent me an email and a certified letter explaining the same thing. As a couple other reviewers have indicated, once they realized it wasn’t going to be an $80k settlement they dropped me. They assumed I was not working and waiting around for a settlement despite the fact that I told them from the beginning I had a current job and was only unemployed for 3-4 months. So since they could essentially only collect pay for 3-4 months as a settlement they dropped me. I completely understand this, however do not appreciate their lack of attention to the details I provided them from the beginning. Had they done this they would have saved me and themselves a lot of time. I personally don’t wish to pursue my case further now that they’ve dropped me. It’s worth mentioning am not on any deadline to file a lawsuit. (Although I still 100% believe I was wrongfully terminated for requesting an ADA accommodation). However a similar situation may be a bigger issue for someone else if they are on the deadline to file. Two stars because everyone I dealt with (attorney, paralegals) was polite and professional (besides final voice mail), but ultimately would not recommend this firm.
My attorney was Shawn he was absolutely amazing,Did a great job! Natasha R. Was the best paralegal in the office. She was very friendly but also professional, kept me well up to date with the details of my case. I would gladly recommend to anyone.
James Lopez represented my husband and me regarding an unemployment benefits appeal. They were very thorough and answered questions throughout the entire process, which took several months. They were able to thoroughly present the facts in such a way that a young couple with very little law background like us could be represented in the most fair way possible. They were able to reverse the appeal and we are so glad that we hired them. Thank you KM&A!
When KM&A thought I had a big dollar settlement, they were all over my case. However, my case was handed over to another attorney and paralegal. I had to contact the paralegal and attorney for information that should have been relayed to me. I called to double check on a mediation date only to have the paralegal tell me it was canceled and she "thought" she told me. A mediator said my case would be better as a failure to hire rather than wrongful termination, however the attorney did not pursue it. He said we'd be better off just setting for what ended up being less than one weeks pay. Even after I agreed to settle just to have the 2 year case end, my check which was taxed was sent to the wrong address. I updated my address with the paralegal more than once and was told she did let the opposing side know that I had a new address. The settlement was taxed but taxed to the wrong Twp. And school district because they never relayed the information I was told they did. I had a few conversations with the attorney about the paralegal about her attitude and lack of communication. He defended her and said he has high confidence in her skills. Either way, she is no longer with the company however I feel the attorney gave up on my case once he realized it wasn't going to be an $80,000 case which he thought in the beginning. They also took more than the 40% of the settlement which we had a contract and I didn't get back my $50 retainer fee back either. When asked, I was told that some of the costs were higher than expected so they took more money. Either way, we had a contract saying they will only take 40% and I'd get my retainer fee back. Not worth an argument and I'm more relieved that I dont have to deal with KM&A anymore than I am to have the whole case done. Do yourself a favor and use Berger and Greene or someone more reputable.
