The Rivas Law Firm

(Part 2 - Had to send this from my work email) I wish I could say this was the worst part of my experience with this law firm, but it wasn't. They have a legal assistant whose name was Jenny (or Genesis). I came to find out that she is married to Jose Rivas (which is why she probably has the job to begin with). She is the rudest, bossiest, meanest woman I have ever dealt with in a legal relationship. When I would try and get a hold of whichever lawyer from their firm I thought showed up to the court date I had, when nobody got back to me, I would finally have to call the office, and Jenny was usually the one answering the phone. She would promise that the lawyer would call that evening, and he never did, so when I would call back, she would tell me to call back after 1, for example, and if I called before then, she would reprimand me, telling me, "I told you to call after 1pm!" The day I decided to fire them, I called their office to get them to transfer all their evidence and pertinent information to my case over to my new lawyer, and Jenny answered, "We don't have the transcripts to the deposition, you need to call the court reporter, I'll send you the email." I tried to explain, that I was not working with her firm anymore, to which she interrupted saying, "Maybe you don't understand me because of my accent...", and said the same thing again without listening to me and HUNG UP! First of all, if she even let me finish a simple few phrases in English (that she should easily understand, if she doesn't then this shouldn't be her job), then she would know what I was requesting. Secondly, if she had kept her mouth shut and listened from our several conversations, I've told her I speak fluent Spanish, so her accent should never have been an issue to begin with! You are a criminal law firm with clients that are criminals and are used to be treated in such a way, but you also have people that have been wrongfully charged that need strong legal representation and reassurance that they are in good hands, and they honestly care. A law firm that is prompt with answering or returning phone calls, who are cognizant of the needs and wants of each and every one of their clients, and absolutely positively never ever hang up the phone on one of their clients without listening to what they are requesting. Reading over past reviews, I don't know how they have been praised for their professionalism and courtesy to their clients. From the start, I felt like I was just another cattle in the herd they were just turning and burning. They made me sign a non-refundable retainer agreement, which I should not have done, because I would not have any way to hold them accountable for doing a decent job, which they obviously did NOT do. Secondly, they passed my case around to 3 different lawyers, because the first one quit on them, which he claimed they parted on good terms (probably a part of their separation was to not bad mouth this firm). The second lawyer was Jose Rivas himself. I would ask to discuss what the game plan was at least a couple of days before the court date so that I know what my options are, and I wouldn't be able to talk to him until the day of the court date out in front of the courtroom! The plea bargain they were negotiating with the state attorney was completely unreasonable. I was the one trying to drum up ideas on how to avoid jail time, and maybe even get some or all the charges dropped, and they still couldn't get the state attorney to budge on their plea. Then, Rivas passes me on to a THIRD attorney, Jose Rodriguez, with no explanation as to why, and still yielding the same result, NOTHING.

José Rivas is the best! He was recommended to me by my boss who is a chiropractor. My boss knows tons of attorneys, but he said José is the best and he is. Thank you so much for getting my case dismissed. I recommend the Rivas law firm to everyone I know.

Attorney Jose Rivas got did an excellent job with my case. His team is amazing. He fought for my case until the end. He is straight forward and gives you a real analysis of your case. Recommend him 100 percent .

Attorney Rivas was brilliant from start to finish. We were pretty anxious at first about our case, not even sure anyone was willing to take it on. Within the first minute of our talk with him, we no longer felt doubtful that he is the right person to resolve our problem. He was very tactful in planning our defence and meticulous in tackling the issue. We shall always remain grateful to Rivas.
