About Franklyn
FRANKLYN H. SNITOW co-founded the firm of Snitow & Pauley in 1985 and prior to that he was a partner at Orenstein Snitow & Pauley. Mr. Snitow also served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Rackets Bureau of the New York County District Attorney's Office under District Attorney Frank S. Hogan and Robert M. Morgenthau from 1970 to 1976. Since 1976, he has been engaged in private practice concentrating in complex commercial, employment and family law in both state and federal courts.
In 1985, Mr. Snitow successfully argued the landmark RICO case of Sedima v. Imrex before the United States Supreme Court. Thereafter, Mr. Snitow has been lead counsel in a number of high profile complex litigations, including serving as lead attorney for the federal civil rights class action suit filed by the residents of Crown Heights against the City of New York for damages sustained during the racial violence that occurred in Crown Heights in August of 1991. He has represented the Office of the Attorney General of the State of New York and Department of Law in significant First Amendment employment cases. He also represented members of the clergy in litigation from inception to the New York State Court of Appeals in the case of Lightman v. Flaum which involved 1st Amendment issues as applicable to the clergy- penitent privilege.
Mr. Snitow is President of Bris Avrohom, President of the Queens Jewish Center, and a member of the Executive Board, and Vice President of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations. He is also a member of the Federal Bar Council and New York State Bar Associations.
Mr. Snitow received his Bachelor of Arts degree from American University in 1967 and graduated from New York Law School in 1970 as a member of Phi Delta Phi. He is admitted to practice in New York, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, the United States District Court for the Eastern, Southern and Northern Districts of New York, the United States Supreme Court, the District of Columbia, and the United States Tax Court.
